HIV/AIDS Program Assistant
The United States Embassy – Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Kenya has a vacancy for Program Assistant (HIV/AIDS Care & Treatment) in Kisumu.
The incumbent of this position is a Project Manager and a key public health advisor for HIV treatment and care on the HIV Treatment Team.
The job holder provides comprehensive public health technical, administrative and managerial advice and assistance in support of treatment activities provided under the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) with a major focus on HIV care and treatment, PMTCT or TB/HIV services.
Responsibilities include dayto-day program management and development, monitoring, reporting and close collaboration with PEPFAR partners to ensure implementation is carried out in accordance with program strategic objectives and internationally recognized best practices for HIV treatment.
Partners include other PEPFAR agencies, host government ministries (including the Ministries of Health and NASCOP), Global Fund, International Organizations (IOs) and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) involved in treatment of HIV/AIDS in Kenya.
The incumbent represents DGHA Kenya on AIDS treatment issues at technical, policy and strategic planning meetings, including meetings with collaborators and donor agencies.


Requirements: 
  • Diploma in Clinical Medicine is required.
  • At least 5 of Public health experience in developing, implementing and evaluating HIV care and treatment programs or other public health or development assistance programs that involve coordination with an international agency or implementing partner is required.
  • At least 3 years of specialist experience in the clinical management of HIV/AIDS, including experience with the use of Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy (HAART) and opportunistic infection prophylaxis. Level IV English (Fluent) and Level III Kiswahili is required.
  • In-depth knowledge of HIV/AIDS prevention methods, care and treatment services, counseling and testing interventions, behaviour change, and HIV treatment is required.
  • Detailed knowledge of the Kenyan government health care system and structures including familiarity with MOH policies, program priorities and regulations is required.
  • Must have a working knowledge of team management techniques to plan, organize and direct multi-disciplinary activities.
  • Good working knowledge of overall administrative requirements, budgeting and fiscal management in support of contracts/cooperative agreements/grants/purchase requisitions is required.
  • Must have strong oral and written communications skills to develop and maintain effective, sustainable, working relationships with national and international partners.
  • Must be able to use word processing, spreadsheets and proprietary databases and keyboarding skills that include speed and accuracy.
