HIV Prevention Public Health Specialist
The United States Embassy – Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Kenya has a vacancy for Public Health Specialist (HIV Prevention) in Nairobi.
The Public Health Specialist will be the team lead for the Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision (VMMC) and Injection Drug Users programs (IDU) for CDC Division of Global HIV/AIDS (DGHA) Kenya, and in addition provide technical support for all HIV combination prevention activities.
Will supervise work for CDC DGHA Kenya, at service delivery and study sites and work closely with other agencies and groups.
He/she will ensure that prevention activities are based on the latest relevant science, and that scientific knowledge is translated into program guidelines and practices for the national program including incorporating new interventions into the national strategic plan.


Requirements:

  • Medical doctor qualification (United States MD or equivalent) is required.
  • A Master’s degree in Public Health, or equivalent qualification relevant to health and HIV/AIDS prevention, is also required.
  • A minimum of at least 3 years of public health experience in HIV prevention, care and treatment programming in developing countries is required with an emphasis on HIV prevention.
  • Level IV (fluent) English ability is required. Incumbent must have technical knowledge of clinical medicine,
    epidemiology, and public health relevant to the African setting.
  • Basic knowledge of HIV/AIDS, as well as knowledge of psychosocial issues relevant to coping with AIDS is required.
  • Knowledge of training principles and techniques is also required.
  • Supervision and communication skills are required.
  • Ability to collaborate with counterparts including other CDC sections, USG agencies, GoK, NGOs, CBOs and other partner-supported projects.
  • Must be able to produce high quality written reports and must have computer skills in word processing and spreadsheets computer programs and database software packages.
