Recruitment Position for Grants Officer in Kenya 2017

Plan International is an independent development and humanitarian organisation that advances children’s rights and equality for girls.

The main purpose of this position is to support grant management activities for the $42 million USAID support for the Multi-sectorial Orphans and Vulnerable Children Nilinde project.

The Grants Officer will be based in Nairobi and will report to the Grants Manager.

S/he will be responsible for providing support to the management of sub grants from pre-award to close out.

Grants Officer Job Key Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative support to the solicitation, review, shortlisting and selection of sub grantees’ process.
  • Participate in pre-award assessments for potential sub-grantees.
  • Prepares sub grantee agreements or modification documents for review by the Grants Manager and approval by relevant parties.
  • Review sub grantee monthly financial reports, provide feedback for appropriate corrective action and process sub grantee requests for payment.
  • Identify sub grantee capacity building needs and provide technical assistance where needed.
  • Undertake regular sub grantee monitoring visits to review financial records and ensure compliance with the sub grantee agreement requirements and USAID rules and regulations.
  • Develop and maintain a data base of sub grantees for tracking sub grantee expenditure on a monthly basis.
  • Monitor and report sub grantee burn rates, implementation challenges or deviations from plans.
  • Filing and maintaining proper sub grantee records.
  • Participate in the grant close out process.
  • Any other tasks assigned by your supervisor.

Qualifications for the Grants Officer Job

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Management.
  • Professional qualifications in Business, International Development, Finance/Accounting or related field.
  • At least 3 – 5 years’ experience in grants management.
  • Knowledge of USAID financial and administrative rules and regulations.
  • High level of integrity, values, ethics.
  • Key Skills Specific to the Post:
  • Strong analytical skills, and excellent documentation skills;
  • Good interpersonal, relationship and teamwork skills;
  • Good administration and communication skills;
  • Proficient in computer skills.
