Our client is an international company that processes foods and beverages. They have presence in over 70 countries with over 2500 employees.

As part of their business growth plan, they are opening a processing plant in Kenya that will serve the Southern and East Africa Market.
As such they seek to recruit a Laboratory manager with a background on food science and technology and quality assurance.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develops tools and procedures to assure complete capability of the laboratory.
  • Implements and leads plant laboratory audits (methods, procedures, training document and work instructions) and report to management.
  • Developing and implementing lab proficiency program with plant laboratories assuring appropriate standards met e.g. AOAC, AOCS, GLP’s, and GMP’s.
  • Ensures the laboratory gears and meets ISO standards
  • Responsible to roll out, train and qualify new methods in the laboratory.
  • Developing  safe and stable products of highest quality and great taste according to set recipes and standards
  • Manage all projects proactively, meeting deadlines and customer‘s expectations
  • Develop modifications on existing products and recipes
  • Prioritization of projects to achieve the expectations of the customers
  • Think and act commercially, understand customer needs and challenges and support technical sales and customers in selecting the right products
  • To run and establish an application laboratory, together with company management
  • Develop proactively good manufacturing practices for laboratory daily business
  • Ensure that the laboratory personnel are performing and the laboratory is well managed.
  • Responsible for training of all GMPs, food safety and quality programs
  • Responsible for ensuring that safety and GMP rules and regulations are adhered to.
  • Responsible for maintaining Critical Control Points (CCPs) and Critical Quality Points (CQPs).
  • Responsible for supplier approval
  • Responsible for ongoing coaching, development and training of the laboratory staff that support all plant operations.
  • Interacts with equipment/instrument manufacturers and external lab partners as needed.
  • Establishes an external network for troubleshooting, technical expertise and innovation.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Food and Beverage Technology, and or alternatively a completed apprenticeship as a chemical- technical from an FMCG BACKGROUND.
  • Experience working with a start up will be an added advantage or should have the interest.
  • At least 2 years professional experience in the food and beverage industry.
  • Technological and product development knowhow for beverages is mandatory.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work with highest international standards.
  • Able to take decisions and implement them appropriately.
  • Able to build up and take customer contacts.
  • Able to communicate effectively with customers and colleagues.
  • Excellent sensory skills and passion to work with food and beverages.
  • Must be fluent in English.
