Tullow Oil is seeking talented, motivated, skilled individual to fill the following position:
 

Grievance Officer
Reports to: Stakeholder Engagement Manager
 
Job Purpose: 
  • Be responsible for implementation of the Tullow’s grievance mechanism within the Company’s area of operations in Turkana County
  • Responsible for the registration and compilation of complaints and grievances and their timely assessment and closure
  • Compile data regarding the type and frequency of grievances and complaints and the timeliness of their resolution on a monthly basis.
Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the registration and/or compilation of grievances and complaints from within the project area of operations.
  • Coordination with the multiple registration channels including communication offices, Stakeholder Engagement Officers (SEOs)s, Village Socialisation Officers (VSOs) and the grievance hotline. Registration of grievances will include all grievances including those resolved in the field.
  • Ensure screening of grievances and complaints to facilitate assessment and resolution as appropriate, including escalation to Level 2 where required.
  • Facilitating the investigation of grievances, including verification of claims, Company (or Contractor) responsibilities and appropriate redress mechanism.
  • Ensure timely closure of grievances as stipulated in the grievance policies
  • Responsible for monthly analysis and reporting of grievance statistics, including the number and type of grievances registered, relationship to specific projects/project activities, the timeliness and manner of their resolution.
  • Act as a Link to communications, stakeholder engagement, and other internal functions to ensure major and/or recurrent issues are addressed pro-actively by TKBV communications and engagement plans..
  • Work with the Social Performance stakeholder engagement team and the Communications team to develop IEC material to promote widespread awareness and understanding of the grievance mechanism.
  • Promote internal awareness of the grievance mechanism and departmental responsibilities vis a vis the mechanism.
  • Provide regular updates to the Stakeholder Engagement Manager and more generally the Social Performance Team on the status of grievance management. 
Requirements
  • Degree in social sciences or human geography
  • 2-3 years working in stakeholder engagement management and implementation roles in private sector (preferably major infrastructure or resource sector) projects
  • 2-3 years previous experience working within a community relations / development role
  • Experience in planning and implementing stakeholder consultation and engagement in rural settings
  • Experience in engaging with large and geographically dispersed teams
  • Good people and communication skills
  • Ability to manage conflict situations including the development of conflict resolution strategies and analysis
  • Proven ability to manage complex matters in a transparent and inclusive fashion
  • Demonstrated ability to engage at multiple levels e.g. with government, contractors, consultants, community leaders, community members, e
  • Able to work on own initiative as well as effectively as part of a team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
