Tullow Oil is seeking talented, motivated, skilled individual to fill the following position:

Advisor – Community Access to Water
Reports to: Water Resources Manager
 
Job Purpose: 
  • Ensure that community access, storage and use of water perspectives and deliverables are represented and integrated into the Water Resources Management Unit
  • Facilitate response to community demands for access to water as expressed during land access discussions
  • Develop strategies for community water systems including access, storage and use  of water for human consumption and livestock
  • Ensure compliance of Tullow community water activities with all relevant national and county requirements
  • Liaise with County water officials on Tullow’s actual/potential support for the community water components of the Turkana County Integrated Development Plan
Responsibilities:
  • Development of the Tullow Kenya Water Resource Management System and Standards
  • Assist in the integration of appropriate technology into the design and implementation of sustainable community water systems
  • Ensure compliance of Tullow community water activities with all relevant national and county requirements on water.
  • Maintain and update information on all factors relevant to community water systems in operational areas.
  • Provide input on water issues into Tullow’s risk assessment process
  • Assist in the integration of appropriate technology into the design and implementation of sustainable community water systems
  • Support the design and implementation of an appropriate water quality testing and monitoring program including all community water points.
  • Develop an appropriate framework for the development and handover of community water systems.
  • Work with Social Investment/Social Performance to monitor the performance of local agencies responsible for delivering community water systems under Tullow Kenya Social Investment activities
Requirements
  • Qualification in water or civil engineering, or a related field; or equivalent field experience
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in the implementation of rural community water projects, covering development of wells, and boreholes, pumping, storage or behaviour aspects of Water and Sanitation (This experience could either come from working in commercial organisations, or from NGO/development organisations)
  • Experience of water quality testing
  • Experience of working in the ASAL areas of Kenya, preferably with pastoralist communities.
  • Track record in working with water authorities at local level.
  • Ability to manage community consultations and negotiation (including conflict situations) with skill and sensitivity.
  • Fluent English and Swahili.  Knowledge of local languages is an added advantage.
