Regional Medical Coordinator, Kenya, Tanzania and Somalia – Médecins Du Monde

General Description of the Role
The Regional Medical Coordinator will be based in Nairobi with monthly travels to Bosaso Puntland Somalia and supervisory visits to Tanzania.
He/she will be in charge of providing training and technical support to the medical staff based in Bosaso and the Harm Reduction Program Manager in Nairobi and technical support to the MdM Tanzania mission.
He/she will be answerable to the General Coordinator and will work in close collaboration with the senior management team based in Nairobi.
Key Duties
- Participates in the recruitment and technical training and support of the medical staff in Kenya and Somalia (for the Bosaso and Harm Reduction programs);
- Technical line management of medical team: supervises the medical team work activities;
- Participates to the major Health forums in Nairobi and Bosaso and liaise with MOH, UN agencies and INGO’s to represent MdM organisation;
- Revises and adapts the clinical guidelines in collaboration with the MdM HQ medical referent;
- Establishes the medical activity reports for the donors and MdM Headquarters in France;
- Participates with the coordination team to the Country strategy and identifies new opportunities of intervention for MdM;
- Conducts regular supervision visits to Bosaso and Harm Reduction sites and conducts needs assessment to identify gaps in knowledge and skills of the newly recruited staff;
- Provides technical support to the Bosaso medical staff and to the Harm Reduction Clinical Officer on key subject areas;
- Manages the medical stock and database and logistic chain for medical purchases.
- Provides technical support to the MdM Tanzania medical team and visits the mission when required.
Candidate Profile:
- Recognized as a doctor, nurse or midwife with previous experience as Medical Coordinator;
- Strong knowledge of Somalia (context, culture) in the work environment;
- Strong knowledge of public health issues / PHC and MCH
- Ability to train national staff
- Ability to take effective decisions according to the context
- Capacity to work in an volatile security context and able to apply strict security rules
- Capacity to create relationships with the communities
- Ability to manage a team and work in an international team
- Ability to have a global overview of a program (not only on medical plan)
