Imarisha Naivasha is a unique initiative of the Government of Kenya to tackle the degradation of the Naivasha catchment, situated in the Great Rift Valley, and put the environment and the local economy onto a sustainable footing.
The Imarisha Naivasha Board was set up through a Gazette Notice No. 5368 of 20th May 2011. Specifically the Board is charged with the mandate of managing and coordinating a five-year  Sustainable Development Action Plan (SDAP) that sets out four key areas of intervention.

Imarisha, in partnership with WWF, has received financial assistance from the Dutch Government, through its Embassy in Nairobi, to undertake a four year programme of activities in support of the four outcomes of the SDAP, and in particular the outcome to strengthen the Imarisha secretariat.

Chief Executive Officer
Based in Naivasha and reporting to the Board of Directors through the Chairman, the Chief Executive Officer will be held accountable for:
  • Promoting and establishing Imarisha as the lead in coordination of all developmental activities that have a bearing on environmental sustainability in the Lake Naivasha basin.
  • Representing the board in national and international forums and liaise with government at all levels of responsibility.
  • Preparing proposals to secure the services of development partners and donors to undertake projects that will further the objectives of the SDAP.
  • Interrogating development programmes and proposals by other partners to determine their environmental sustainability.
  • Coordinating of projects undertaken by development partners and monitor progress against defined deliverables.
  • Mobilising responses from relevant government institutions to ensure compliance and enforcement of environmental laws.
  • Developing and promoting an effective communication platform, networking, publicity and information dissemination locally and undertake regular media briefings both nationally and internationally to promote and inform the activities of Imarisha Naivasha.
  • Maintaining a communication platform with all stakeholders including government ministries and agencies, development partners, NGOs, CBOs, resource users and local communities.
  • Managing the secretariat and act as Secretary to the Board.
  • Organising Board meetings and advise the Board on matters of good governance, accountability, ethical standards, and transparency.
  • Producing regular reports to update to the Board and development partners on SDAP activities.
  • Presenting financial, progress and other reports to the Board.
  • Taking responsibility for the overall management and documentation of the secretariat and project finances provided through donors and government.
  • Recruiting and managing technical and support staff in the secretariat.
Qualification and Experience
We are seeking an exceptional individual who is looking to grow his/her career and personal development in the not-for-profit environmental and sustainable development sector.
The successful candidate will have at least fifteen (15) years working experience in a senior management position, in a demanding environment.
The key competencies for this position are:
  • A Masters level degree in environmental science or planning / natural resource management,  development studies or comparable field.
  • An appreciation of the workings of government at various levels gained through collaboration and working with government institutions.
  • Project/Programme development, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and reporting skills, with a bias in environmental research, monitoring and evaluation and assessment of the effectiveness of the multi-lateral environmental agreements
  • Ability to manage the interests and aspirations of a culturally diverse multi stakeholder environment
  • Experience in restoration and rehabilitation of degraded ecosystems; integrated watershed planning and management; management of protected and conservation areas and understanding of conservation policies; and sustainable use of natural resources for income generation and poverty alleviation
  • Understanding of a Public-Private-People participatory frameworks and their application to promote sustainable development.
  • Understanding impacts of climate change on natural resources and community livelihoods and the relevant mitigation measures
  • Extensive experience of writing technical and financial proposals, negotiating and concluding contracts with leading donor agencies, NGO’s and other financing institutions.
  • Enthusiastic, pragmatic and energetic hands-on individual with an entrepreneurial spirit and a bias towards action and resolving issues quickly
  • Exceptional project management, consulting and facilitation skills
  • Excellent communication, influencing and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships, influence, motivate and encourage consensus amongst peers, employees and partners at all levels and of different cultures and capacities, to cause positive outcomes and produce high quality results.
  • Practical experience of institutional transition and organizational development. In-depth knowledge of the challenges and opportunities in the not-for- profit environmental and sustainable development sector.
Project Manager
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Project Manager will be held accountable for:
  • Monitoring and evaluating the performance of stakeholders and consultants in the execution of the IWRAP.
  • Liaising with all stakeholders to ensure a thorough understanding of the Integrated Water Resources Action Plan (IWRAP) programme.
  • Attending regular meetings of the IWRAP Project Management Unit.
  • Providing reports and updates to the Imarisha CEO on the overall progress of IWRAP and performance against the programmes of development partners.
  • Monitoring and reporting activities of other development partners engaged in parallel activities associated with the SDAP.
  • Ensuring full compliance with the existing GoK sustainable development policies and guidelines and conditions set by the supporting development partners.
  • When required, under the direction of the CEO, representing Imarisha in local stakeholder forums to ensure a wider understanding of the role of Imarisha.
  • Advising the CEO of potential conflicts, cost increases and time over runs in the execution of the IWRAP and parallel SDAP activities.
  • Identifying, monitoring and responding to risks and challenges that might negatively affect the project implementation and contribute to resolving problems to ensure deliverables are achieved.
  • Collecting and maintaining relevant documentation and data from project monitoring and evaluation and compile project reports for the Imarisha board, partners and other stakeholders, to ensure effective communication and dissemination of all Imarisha activities.
Qualification and Experience

The successful candidate will have at least ten (10) years working experience in the management of multi-disciplinary projects/programmes, and;
  • A first degree in environmental science or similar and Master’s degree in project management with an emphasis on the natural resources management.
  • Project/programme implementation, monitoring, evaluation and reporting
  • Effective management in a multi stakeholder environment
  • Restoration and rehabilitation of degraded ecosystems
  • An understanding of integrated watershed planning and management
  • Good experience of managing budgets and exercising and cost control and an understanding of basic accounting principles

ICT Manager
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the ICT (Information, Communication and Technology) Manager will be held accountable for strengthening the institutional capacity of Imarisha Naivasha to execute the SDAP (monitoring, compliance, oversight and communication) and successful  implementation of the SDAP and IWRAP programmes.
Specifically, this position will ensure that Imarisha Naivasha Board promotes open information sharing systems (depository database, website and publications) to support communication, accessibility and decision making by all stakeholders.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Engaging the Project Management Unit and other projects and programmes in the basin, Integrated Monitoring Committee, project managers, development partners and consultants to design appropriate data/information collection and management systems.
  • Managing the website, database, internet, Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide area Network (WAN) and manage access to and updating the data base under the direction of the CEO.• Liaising with all Imarisha stakeholders and development partners and research organizations to identify and secure relevant data and information to populate the data base, and establish an electronic library of qualitative and quantitative resource data, reports and other relevant documentation and publications.
  • Establishing an effective communication system with all stakeholders, and maintain and regularly update the Imarisha website.
  • Providing user support including staff training; ensure availability, security, confidentiality and integrity of the ICT infrastructure.
  • Preparing and presenting reports.
  • Keeping updated with emerging information communication technology trends.
Qualification and Experience
We are seeking an exceptional individual who is looking to grow his/her career and personal development in the not-forprofit environmental and sustainable development sector.
The successful candidate will have at least five (5) years working experience creating and managing data bases, website design and maintenance.
Familiarity with the use of mobile data tools will be an added advantage.
Knowledge and practical experience in GIS mapping and desktop publication is essential, and;
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and a master’s degree in Information, Communication and Technology (ICT), Project Management or related discipline from a recognized and accredited university
  • Certification in database / website management; desktop publishing or equivalent from a recognized and accredited institution/examining body.
  • Enthusiastic, pragmatic and energetic hands-on individual with an entrepreneurial spirit and a bias towards action and resolving issues quickly
  • A team player with effective communicator and good listener with good facilitation skills able to train other staff members on ITC management.
  • Assertive and confident with good analytical thinking and decision making skills and a high level of attention to details.
  • Cross functional & interdisciplinary awareness in the ICT space with a flexible and adaptable approach to changing requirements.
