Job Title: Plant Accounting Manager

Reports to: Finance Manager and dotted line to Plant manager
Purpose
Manages and controls accounting operations of Nakuru plant, and ensure support to other departments in the realization of the plant and total company objectives.
Accounting and reporting
- Construct and maintain data accumulation and analysis system to assist in the control and management of the production process.
- Create, review and monitor all the controls needed to manage the production process and the general plant operations.
- Analyse and investigate production variances and resolve all the issues.
- Continually review standard and actual costs for any inconsistencies and ensure relevance.
- Ensure that proper books of accounts are maintained at all times and all balance sheet items relating to the plant operations are analysed/reconciled, documented and approved on a monthly basis.
- Determine and validate the cost of goods sold as part of the end month procedures.
- Perform adhoc product/plant cost analysis and any other responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time.
Budgeting and Standard cost development
- Developing the annual standard costs for the manufactured products and generation of the plant budget information in line with policy.
- Assist in the determining the annual resource requirements for the plant including capital budget.
Inventory Management and Internal Controls
- Coordinate physical inventory counts and cycle counts. Investigate cycle counting variances and resolve issues.
- Ensure optimal inventory levels are maintained at all times in line with the set guidelines.
Organization development
- Supervision and managing performance of the plant accounting staff.
- Plan and monitor training and development of the accounting staff.
Job Specification
Education and experience
- Any business related degree
- CPA (K) professional qualifications
- 3+ years in a cost accounting in a busy manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in MS Excel
Other Skills, Competencies and Requirements
- Leadership skills
- Competencies in; Initiative, analysis/critical thinking and integrity
- Exposure to manufacturing department’s activities, cost accounting, reporting and variance analysis.
- Working knowledge of an accounting package preferably Sunsystems.
