Madison Finance Company Limited (MFinance) which is part of the LSA Group of companies is a rapidly growing Micro-Finance Institution in Zambia with focus on growing the Micro, Small and Medium Entrepreneurs (MSMEs) as well as proving affordable housing finance in Zambia. 
The Company has a branch network spread throughout the major cities in the Country with the Head Office based in Lusaka.

1. Head – MSME and Personal Loans

The primary responsibility of the Head – MSME and Personal Loans is to drive the development of MFinance’s Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise lending operation. 

The scope of this function includes, amongst others, developing high performance MSME team; driving new product development process, initiating and managing marketing activities and managing profitability to spur business growth. 
In addition, this function drives compliance to Policies and Procedures to mitigate risk while maintaining excellent customer service.
 
Key Qualifications, Competencies and Personal Traits
  • Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Banking, Finance, Accounting or any business related courses;
  • At least 5 years managerial experience in business development and implementation in a Banking and/or MSME oriented financial institution;

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare annual budget and work plans aligned with overall targets and strategies;
  • Communicate and discuss annual business targets to foster buy-in at the branch level;
  • Manage staffing, workload and productivity of all staff in the department;
  • Prepare in depth analysis of market and competition, as needed;
  • Develop annual marketing action plans and strategies to meet targets and review strategies as often as required;
  • Perform daily assessment of the evolution of the loan portfolio and provide solution/s to potential impediments to growth and quality;
  • Assess the financial performance of all products and services;
  • Recommend modifications in the products and services, as needed;
  • Daily review loan workflow in the system (when available) to assess the number of loan applications received across branches and assess the loan turnaround time;
  • Liaise with the head of credit in establishing and maintaining efficiency and control in executing pre-approval and postapproval credit processes;
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to region head/s on the best practices in evaluating market potentials, identifying opportunities and supervising the business performance of the branches in their area;
  • Evaluate the performance of region head/s;
  • Determine skills development trainings needed by branch heads and other staffs of the department;
  • Review and sign-off all reports (internal and external) prior to distribution.
2. Head – Operations
The focus of the Head – Operations is on operations management and operations and credit risk control of the institution for which he or she is fully responsible and for the design, operations, and improvement of the systems that create and deliver the institutions products/services in an increasingly competitive marketplace.
 
Key Qualifications, Competencies and Personal Traits
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in finance, accounting or business. MBA would be added advantage
  • Ten years’ experience managing progressively larger operational and business areas of a financial institution
  • Successful experience in micro and small business lending and overseeing technology functions.
  • Successful direct experience in management of employees at both managerial and clerical levels
  • Knowledge and experience of implementing and adhering to banking, regulatory and compliance matters.
  • Strong, proven focus on bottom line performance.
  • Zambian or East/Southern African national preferred with ability to work in cross cultural environments and to mentor a Zambian successor.
  • Commitment to company’s vision and mission.
  • Methodical and analytical but with appropriate people skills.
  • Excellent leadership and team building skills to work with talented but also inexperienced middle management group.
  • Experienced user of Microsoft Office and other software tools.
  • Technical knowledge of electronic delivery channels and in touch with development of mobile & internet banking.
  • Experience with Temenos core banking systems an advantage.
  • Comfortable with working with a wide degree of latitude and expectation of creativity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Responsible for expansion of branches and service centres, ensuring efficient operations and excellent customer service (to both internal and external customers) while maintaining targeted cost income ratios.
  • Through the Head of BMU, ensures the branch network is organized, branch/staff productivity is maximised and able to meet loan and deposit growth business targets under the direction of functional business heads while maintaining a good balance between business generation, sound internal controls and excellent customer service.
  • Through the Head of HR, ensures the required staffing and expertise required for the fast growing institution, staff development and retention of talent through performance evaluation, establishment of career paths and appropriate training while keeping administrative costs within tight controls.
  • Through the Head of Credit, ensures loan approvals and disbursements are made within laid down schedules, while maintaining requisite controls over process, credit risk, documentation and recoveries , where required and ensuring PAR is maintained within targeted parameters.
  • Through the Head of ICT, ensures a high level of technology support with a wide range of services through the benefit of integrated delivery channels, with high level of data security, an adequate backup contingency plan and proper resolution of all data and other problems/challenges.
  • Develop annual budgets for all of the operating units and assures that operating performance is within budget.
  • Evaluate processes and work to continuously improve efficiency, productivity and appropriate staffing.
  • Implement and maintain appropriate controls.
  • Ensure reportees analyse operations and make recommendations to improve operations and services and implement approved changes.
  • Mentor/support the career development of managers that report to him/her and ensure adequate training and motivation of all operating unit staff.
  • Work closely with internal and external auditors and regulators.
