Sanergy  is looking for a qualified Compliance Officer to  join our Quality, Health, Safety and Environment team on a full- time basis.

Who we are: Sanergy is an award-winning social venture that builds healthy, prosperous communities by making safe sanitation accessible and affordable in Africa’s urban informal settlements.

Our systems-based approach to solving the sanitation crisis involves 3 critical steps: we build a dense network of high-quality sanitation facilities – Fresh Life Toilets – franchised to residents in the community.

We collect the waste regularly and safely remove it from the community. Finally, we convert the waste into valuable agricultural inputs, which we sell to Kenyan farmers. Our current end products are an organic fertilizer (EverGrow) and an animal feed (PureProtein).

About the role: The role of the Quality Health Safety and Environment (QHSE) team is to ensure that the organization maintains a healthy workforce that operates in a safe workplace and outputs quality products, while the role of the Government relations team is to ensure, as per this role that the organization is in conformity with government regulations.

You will be fully responsible for conducting a comprehensive compliance gap analysis, make recommendations and implement approvals, come up with a full plan and implement process and implementation of KEBS approval of EverGrow and PureProtein while ensuring internal compliance requirements are in line with external (government) requirements.

A typical day for you might include the following

  • Analyze relevant policies, documenting audits and making recommendations for the future.
  • In conjunction with the Government Relations team work with the external stakeholders to ensure that our products are aligned in terms of quality standards and help secure permits for products.
  • Ensure that internal occupational Safety and Health systems are in place and the organization is compliant with the government legislation and third party guidelines.
  • Coordinate internal quality management systems to ensure process, product/service quality and safety for workers and consumers.
  • In conjunction with Government Relations team, run and document our current compliance level, and a risk analysis associated with our future investments.
  • Work with all stakeholders to ensure we are implementing and sustaining all environment management and protection systems complying with government and third party stakeholders as per organization’s guidelines.
Qualifications you’ll need 
  • Bachelor of Science (BSC General) or
  • Bachelor of Science in either Environmental health, environmental science or Public health
  • Any other degree with specific relevant experience of at least five years
  • Demonstrable experience in project management, process improvement, strategic planning and execution.
  • Certifications in process improvement methodologies will be an added advantage.
Skills you’ll need

At least three years’ continuous experience with;

  • Hands On experience working with or on compliance and or certifications with different government agencies like Kenya Bureau of Standards, NEMA or KEPHIS, Ministry of Agriculture, Health.
  • Understanding of matters around organic fertilizers, animal feeds and regulations that go with it.
  • Understanding of government functionaries around compliance and certification processes
  • Understanding production processes around quality and improvements
  • Proficient in the Quality management systems
  • Proficient Safety and health systems
  • Proficient in Environment management and protection systems
