Our Client, a Charitable Organization seeks to recruit a Deputy Executive Director.
Location: Nairobi, Kenya

Reports to: Executive Director

Work Type: Full Time
He / she will under the supervision of the Executive Director, coordinate the organization’s fundraising activities, and raise the profile of the organization conservation work.

Main Responsibilities:
1. Management and Administration
Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Deputy Executive Director will:
  • Deputize the Executive Director;
  • Represent the Executive Director in meetings or other functions as assigned by the Executive Director;
2. Fundraising
Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Deputy Executive Director will:
  • Developing and implementing the organization’s fund-raising plan and coordinating it’s fund raising activities;
  • Being responsible for the development and submission of fund-raising proposals;
  • Being responsible for the submission of reports to donors; Coordinate its fund raising activities towards achieving the fundraise targets set out in the organization’s five-year Strategic Plan, including developing and submitting funding proposals, and reporting to donors;
  • Coordinate the fund raising activities of the organization USA office and the its UK office towards achieving the fundraise targets set out in the organization’s five-year Strategic Plan;
  • Establish endowment funds for the maintenance of it’s conservation projects;
  • Establish payments for ecosystem service schemes to secure long-term financing for the conservation of Kenya’s mountain forests, in line with the organization’s five-year Strategic Plan;
  • Engage with the Government of Kenya and the its projects, including the endowment funds;
  • Provide support to the ecosystem-based trusts towards achieving their fund raising objectives;
  • Coordinate the organization’s support and provide administrative support to the organization.
3. Public Relations
Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Deputy Executive Director will:
  • Being responsible for its public relations activities;
  • Supervise the work of the Public Relations Officer;
  • Keep under review the public perception of the organization and identify opportunities to enhance its visibility and reputation;
  • Raise the profile of the mountain forests, other threatened habitats and their wildlife; and, engage policy makers, the private sector and development partners on the need to protect the mountain forests, other threatened habitats and their wildlife.
Key Qualifications
It is essential for the candidate to possess the following qualifications:
  • Hold a minimum qualification of Masters in environmental science or business administration or equivalent from a recognized university;
  • Have working experience in fund raising;
  • Be a person of high integrity and meets the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya 2010;
  • Proven track record in general management and administrative skills, with broad knowledge of accounting procedures, and budget planning/implementation;
  • Excellent communication skills with all levels of the organization and across all functions of the Kenya government, the donor fraternity, global conservation bodies and communities living adjacent to forest ecosystems;
  • Good negotiation skills and ability to present issues in a clear, concise and logical manner;
  • Experience in conservation is an added advantage.
Competencies
  • Demonstrate critical competencies in four broad categories: commitment to results, business savvy, ability of convincing, and motivating;
  • Excellent communication, presentation, strong interpersonal and analytical skills, organizational and team leadership capabilities;
  • Excellent negotiation skills with capacity to engage with the Government, the private sector, and regional and international organizations;
  • Self-driven, innovative, dynamic and capable of working under pressure with minimum supervision;
  • Understanding of Kenya’s conservation sector is an added advantage.
