Treasury Accountant Job at Uchumi (50-90K)

Reporting to: Treasury & Tax Manager

The job holder will enforce controls around cashbook by preparing daily bank reconciliations to ensure all bankings are verified daily and correctly captured in ERP, and conclusively address queries from Stores and Banks.

Responsibilities for the Treasury Accountant Job

• Ensure preparation of daily bank reconciliation of all the bank accounts maintained by the company and implement auto bank reconciliations for all the bank accounts when availed .
• Ensure data on actual cash receipts, revenue expenses and capital expenditure is captured accurately.
• Manage the company borrowings and ensure all finance costs and loan related covenants are honored as per contract.
• Cash management of Retail outlets by ensuring all sales are receipted and reconciled to daily bankings.
• Funding of all bank accounts as per company requirements including preparation of daily cash position for management.
• Cash office operations to ensure accurate reconciliation of staff accounts, accounting for companywide cash holdings and timely reimbursement of cash.
• Ensure all correspondence for the Treasury section is filed and readily available as and when required.
• Ensure that monthly bank charges and interest income are prepared for review. Delivery of bank reconciliations for review by the Treasury & Tax Manager by the 5th working day.
• Ensure all reconciling items in the accounts are corrected within the following month of the reconciliation.
• Completeness of sales banking and control over outflows from bank.
• Resolve any variances within 24-hours.
• No penalties for late payment of interest or failure to honour covenants.
• Daily reconciliation of sales receipts and bankings.
• Liaise with Retail outlets to correct any variances.
• Same day banking of all cash and cheques.
• Arrange for inter-bank transfers.
• Ensure funds are held in high yielding accounts as per Treasury Policy.
• Timely reimbursement of store claims.
• Ensure expense claims are in line with policy guidelines.
• Control of Store float through surprise cash counts.
• Timely response to correspondences.
• Filing of Treasury correspondences.
• Avail interest and bank charges schedule for monthly reporting by WD2.
• Ensure interest expense and bank charges are within contracted rates.

Qualifications for the Treasury Accountant Job

• Qualified Accountant CPA (K)/CIMA/ACCA/ACA or equivalent with an Honors degree from a recognized university;
• MS Word – Intermediate Level.
• MS PowerPoint – Advanced Level.
• MS Excel – Advanced Level.
• MS Access – Intermediate Level.
• ERP – Intermediate Level.

Experience

• 2-4 years accounting experience preferably in a busy retail establishment .
• Experience in preparation of monthly bank reconciliations preferably using automated systems and revaluation of foreign exchange for reporting;
• Thorough understanding of the International Financial Reporting Standards;
• Submission of accurate, timely and relevant information for statutory and internal audit purpose

Leadership Competencies & Desired Level

• Demonstrate analytical skills and ability to monitor and explain trends and variances
• Working experience in Oracle application;
• Self- drive for results.
• Excellent negotiation skills
