Child Protection Coordinator Job at Danish Refugee Council

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) has been providing relief and development services in the Horn of Africa since 1997. DRC seeks to protect refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) on the basis of humanitarian principles and human rights in general and to promote long term solutions to the problems of forced displacement.

The East Africa and Yemen region includes operations in Somalia, Kenya, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Yemen and Uganda and is based on the displacement axis of Somalis, South Sudanese as well as mixed migration flows.

Roles for the Child Protection Coordinator Job

  • Focal person on Child Protection (CP) interventions for DRC Somalia Program
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to the design of and implementation of CP interventions in accordance with international standards, best practice and DRC Protection Strategy.
  • Contribute to the development of CP country sector strategic direction and plans.
  • Appraise the design of ongoing CP interventions and ensure standardized operational methodologies across area offices.
  • Lead the design and implementation of specific CP project on monitoring and reporting of grave violations against children in armed conflict.
  • In collaboration with protection and M&E teams, assist in the design and conducting of needs assessments and identifying new program opportunities.
  • Ensure continued advocacy for quality CP interventions within and outside the organization
  • Provide teams with relevant, and up-to-date resources and tools for implementation of CP activities.
  • Ensure that quality policy documents and reports with relevant data and trends are produced as part of DRC interventions on Child protection.

Child Protection Coordinator Job Requirements

  • University degree, preferably in Law, Sociology, Social work, Human Rights, or related field.
  • Post graduate qualification in the same field is desirable
  • At least 3 years of experience on child protection programming in humanitarian response
  • Demonstrated understanding of general protection programming in humanitarian response
  • Experience in designing strategic documents to guide implementation, assessments and standard operating procedures on child protection.
  • Experience in capacity building, including as a trainer and on human rights, project management, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Experience in remote management and and working with local organizations
  • Thorough knowledge of and experience of working on children associated with armed conflict
  • Intellectually flexible with ability to deliver results in a short period of time.
  • Proven commitment to accountability and quality assurance.
  • Excellent analytical and skills in report writing and proposal development.
  • Experience living and working in a cross-cultural, multi-sector, conflict affected, remote environments, under team conditions;
  • Ability to work well under pressure and in adverse conditions;
  • Ability to work in a large organization with complex systems.
  • Experience in working in Somalia/Somaliland is an added advantage
