Network Administrator Jobs at ICT Authority

The ICT Authority is tasked with rationalizing and streamlining the management of all Government of Kenya ICT functions. Its broad mandate entails enforcing ICT standards in Government and enhancing the supervision of its electronic communication. The Authority also promotes ICT literacy, capacity, innovation and enterprise in line with the Kenya National ICT Masterplan 2017.

Planning, designing and implementing data connectivity for local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN) systems

Network Administrator Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for administration and upgrading of network systems
  • Ensure optimal operation of all network hardware and equipment e.g. routers and switches
  • Configure all networks in the public service to ensure their smooth and reliable operation for fulfilling organizational objectives and processes
  • Monitor network performance and troubleshoot problem areas as needed to identify and remedy network performance bottlenecks
  • Ensure network connectivity of all servers, workstations, telephony equipment, fax machines, and other network appliances
  • Manage the usage of the network systems and their resources on a regular basis to identify bottlenecks and co-ordinate with Network & Systems Engineers to carry out appropriate tuning.
  • Provide day-to-day support for Infrastructure and security components such as network switches, firewalls, WAN connectivity, VPN and Anti-Virus
  • Plan for the expansion of network and communication equipment and new network cabling structures e.g. Fiber optic, FDDI etc.
  • Liaise with the managed units division to perform on-site analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of complex network problems for a variety of end users, and recommend and implement corrective solutions
  • Manage planning and maintenance of network cabling
  • Assists maintaining network servers by troubleshooting hardware and software issues.
  • Maintains and add new user accounts to the network, sets up E-mail mailboxes, maintains email distribution groups
  • Participate in managing all network security solutions
  • Establish and maintain regular written and in-person communications with departmental administration regarding pertinent network activities
  • Participate in server and security audits, and system backups and recovery
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications for the Network Administrator Job

  • A university degree in computer science or related field
  • Possession of a relevant Network Administration Certificate e.g. CCNA or CCNE
  • Five years relevant experience
  • Proven experience with network capacity planning, network security principles, and general network management best practices.
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize tasks in a high-pressure environment
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
