Career Opening : Business Development Vacancy in Kenya

Kenya Association of Music Producers (KAMP) and Performers Rights Society of Kenya (PRISK) are Collective Management Organizations licensed by the Kenya Copyright Board under the Copyright Act, Cap 130 Laws of Kenya to represent producers of sound recordings and performers of audio and audio-visual works respectively. KAMP and PRISK are both mandated to collect license fees from the users of sound recordings and audiovisual works and distribute royalties to their respective rights holders.

Purpose

KAMP-PRISK seek to engage a Business Development Executive (BDE) whose primary duty shall be to identify, engage and license corporate users of sound recordings and audiovisual works in accordance with the Copyright Act. The successful candidate shall be required to have the ability to establish strong relations with Key Accounts clients and must have excellent communication skills with the ability to fluently communicate in both English and Swahili. The position is based in Nairobi and will involve travel across the country.

Responsibilities for the Business Development Job

Reporting to the Head of Key Accounts, the BDE shall be expected to work with Key Accounts team to implement the Societies’ bespoke Key Account management plan including licensing, research, preparing reports, developing strategies, analysing markets, trends and developments in music and audiovisual licensing.

Specifically, the BDE shall have the following responsibilities:

  • Research, target and penetrate large accounts across multiple sectors;
  • Develop a comprehensive contact base of decision makers and influencers in target accounts;
  • Co-ordinate bids and work closely with the relevant account teams towards closure of deals;
  • Achieve new business targets based on retaining ‘Existing’ and netting in ‘New’ account targets;
  • Utilise existing networks and relationships to build new business;
  • Develop strategies to penetrate potential clients;
  • Periodically carry out environmental scanning for a rationalized plan of action
  • Ensure Key Accounts database is kept up to date;
  • Take a consultative approach to cultivating the customer relationship and identifying customer needs;
  • Create awareness to the public about KAMP-PRISK and their collective rights mandate in the music and audiovisual industry;
  • Supervise enforcement operations in conjunction with the police from time to time as directed by the Head of
  • Carrying out any other duty as may be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications for the Business Development Job

  • At least a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing or any other related qualification (from a recognized university) with at least one year progressive working experience in a sales and marketing environment; or a Diploma in related field with at least three (3) years in sales and marketing with proven track record.
  • Must possess reporting and people relations skills.
  • Must have consultative sales technique with ability to develop a conceptual sale
  • Must be an independent self-starter with pro-active approach to work and excellent follow through skills with attention to deadlines.
  • Target driven with an ability to work independently
  • Demonstrated professionalism and ability to manage work relations in a respectful and courteous manner.
  • Must be dedicated to aligning with company goals and policies in ensuring success.
  • Must have NO criminal background. Certificate of Good Conduct is a requirement.
  • Proficiency in Excel and Word.
  • Good command of English and Kiswahili languages
  • Candidates with good understanding of copyright and intellectual property highly encouraged to apply.
  • Having a pre-existing relevant clientele database and relationship will be an added advantage.
