Duma Works is recruiting a Training and Quality Coordinator for McKinsey Social Initiative.

Generation is a global youth employment programme that helps provide young adults the opportunity to launch successful careers and change their life trajectories – closing the skills gap and easing youth unemployment. Generation is the first programme of McKinsey Social Initiative (“MSI”).

MSI works with delivery partners to recruit candidates, design, and deliver a 4-12 week “bootcamp” training program focused on technical, behavioural, and foundational skills, and to track the return on investment for both employers and young people.

This initiative has been launched across five countries – India, Mexico, Spain, Kenya and US.

In Kenya, Generation aims to place 50 000 young people into attractive career paths by 2020.

In 2015, Generation Kenya placed 500 young people into jobs in financial services in Nairobi. In 2016, the aim is 5 000 placements across additional industries and cities. Two new programmes have been launched in the retail and consumer goods sectors.
Additional programmes in manufacturing and business processing outsourcing are being investigated. Generation Kenya is funded by USAID and McKinsey & Company.
The current operations are managed by a dedicated team of 5 McKinsey consultants as well as an expanding team working directly for MSI. With an increasing number of students to whom the programmes are being delivered, the quality of programme delivery and coaching for instructors has to be tightly managed.
This role works with the coaching team of the various delivery partners as well as the Generation global curriculum team.
The role is based in Nairobi and should expect to travel for about 25% of the time.
Responsibilities
 
Instructor Training and Quality Assurance
Under the guidance of the Global Training Lead:
  • Review, modify and manage delivery of train the trainers for Generation instructors.
  • Onboard coaching team of training delivery partners and ensure effective implementation and completion of training materials.
  • Develop, establish, manage, monitor and review coaching support mechanisms for instructors of Generation programs.
  • Build capability and empower coaching team at training delivery partners to implement ensure quality across all instructors of Generation programs.
  • If necessary, organise bi-annual coaching intensive top-up trainings.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of Generation’s quality assurance policies and procedures, and help customize them to meet Kenya’s quality assurance needs.
  • Observe in-person instruction, collect video samples, and assess delivery partner coach capability. Define strategies for closing the gap from ideal performance.
  • Manage the collection of videos of classrooms via the Panopto video software.
Program Improvement and Learning
  • Be a thought partner for programme leads with programme design to incorporate improved delivery lessons. Cross-pollinate key lessons from all programmes. Schedule and run monthly meetings between curriculum lead and programme leads.
  • Collaborate with remote colleagues on the global curriculum design team to ensure effective curriculum localisation and session design to support quality delivery.
  • Remain plugged into curriculum design and delivery best practice as it surfaces from Generation countries.
  • Monitor programmes’ ability to deliver on key value drivers to employers Program Coordination and Management.
  • Assist global curriculum design team with recruitment of curriculum writers.
  • Performance of such other duties temporarily or on a continuing basis, as may reasonably be required, commensurate with this role.

Mindsets & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related discipline. Advanced degree will be a strong advantage.
  • Minimum of 4 years of work experience, preferably in education or at an NGO.
  • Minimum of 2 years coaching teachers.
  • Experience with having used data to improve instruction highly preferable.
  • Strong track record of having improved curriculum quality and delivery.
  • Well-developed sense of attention to detail.
  • Interest in working in a fast growing organization and being an integral part of aggressive scale
  • Comfort with using technology for collaboration with colleagues working remotely (e.g., using video conference software, Google docs, etc.)
  • A positive, solutions-oriented attitude, drive for excellence, and ability to be a team player.
  • Ability to communicate using local language.
  • Entrepreneurial, proactive mind-set required of start-ups that takes ownership for outcomes and seeks innovative solutions for issues without too much guidance.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines and commitments.
  • Professional demeanour, excellent organizational and communication skills, and strong attention to detail.
  • Self-reflective, open to frequent feedback and ability to give constructive feedback.
This role is a full-time position with an expected start date of 1 July 2016.
The expected minimum duration is 12 months, with a strong possibility to continue.
Probation period is three months. Competitive salary commensurate with experience.
