Senior Associate Advocate
 
Job Purpose
 
Supervise, manage and co-ordinate under the general direction of the Head of Firm, the allocated Team of Associate Advocates and Legal Assistants and ensure that the highest

quality of service is rendered to the Law Firm and the client.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the Head of Firm in effectively managing the budget allocated to the Law Firm and to ensure that the claim expenses within the allocated team are within the Client’s loss ratio targets
  • Manage the legal files stock of the allocated team and ensure that the settlement targets set are achieved
  • Ensure that settlement negotiations with third parties or their advocates are within the law and the parameters set/approved
  • Ensure that costs awarded in dismissed or adjourned matters within the allocated team are promptly pursued and that decrees/certificate of costs and applications for executions are obtained/filed
  • Conduct a thorough and detailed analysis of claim documents to enable early fraud detection, and effectively address the fraudulent claims to meet the client’s guidelines
  • Manage and coordinate the Court attendance diaries of the Associate Advocates and ensure that the available time and resources are effectively utilized to ensure that the highest standard of service is rendered to the Law firm and the Client
  • Prepare and attend court on critical files and avail court attendance reports to the Head of Firm
  • Preparation of monthly performance reports for the allocated team and submitting the same to the Head of Firm
  • Maintain a good rapport with the third party advocates, courts and other service providers dealing with the Law Firm
Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognized university;
  • Diploma in Law(KSL) and  Admission as an Advocate with a current practicing Certificate;
  • 5 Years Post Admission experience in Litigation, 2 of which must be in a Managerial/Supervisory Position;
  • Proficiency in use of computer applications;
  • Organizational, conceptual and analytical, managerial and decision making skills;
  • Ability to get well with diverse workforce;
  • Honesty and integrity;
  • Positive working attitude;
  • Excellent litigation and negotiation skills
  • Ability to give and take instructions;
Associate Advocates

Main Responsibilities
  • Proper management of the legal files and ensuring that instructions are executed in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Preparation of all court attendances, contacting and following up on witness attendances in court, collecting all the necessary evidence, and seeking approval of the case/defense strategy before such hearing/court attendance.
  • Attend court and effectively present the client’s case and promptly avail court attendance reports to the senior advocate and Head of Firm
  • Conduct a thorough and detailed analysis of claim documents to enable early fraud detection, and effectively address the fraudulent claims to meet the client’s guidelines
  • Manage the legal files stock of the allocated team and ensure that the settlement targets set are achieved
  • Preparation of all requisite pleadings and follow up to ensure timely filing in court and service upon third parties
Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognized university
  • Diploma in Law(KSL) and  Admission as an Advocate with a current practicing Certificate;
  • Excellent litigation and negotiation skills
  • Minimum of one year post admission experience
  • Possess a high degree of professional ethics & personal integrity.
  • The candidate must be hardworking, flexible & service oriented.
  • Proficiency in use of computer applications.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
