Bilingual Communication and Media Relations Officer
Reporting to the Regional Director in Nairobi, Kenya and in contact with the Director, Corporate Communications in Ottawa (Canada), your will act as a communications expert to increase the visibility of IDRC and its research partners in Sub-Saharan Africa Region.
Overview of Qualifications
- Master’s degree in social sciences or international development with significant experience in the field of communications and/or journalism OR Master’s degree in communication, journalism, or popularization of science with significant experience in the field of research and/or international development.
- Minimum of five years of recent and relevant communications and research experience, which includes: developing and implementing communications plans and media strategies; monitoring, assessing and responding to media inquiries; analyzing impact of communications and media issues and providing timely strategic advice to management and senior staff; building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders including journalists and the media; identifying and implementing outreach/engagement opportunities for targeted audiences; writing, editing and preparing a variety of communications products for print, on the web, public presentations; and using various social media tools.
- Bilingual position (English / French) requiring advanced language skills in both English and French.
- Strong knowledge of current communications best practices, approaches and tools including social media.
