Hours of Duty: 37.5hrs
Annual leave: 20 days per leave year, on appointment; subject to review for long service.

Role Summary: The position of Clinical Specialist in Ultrasound in Ultrasound requires an ability to work as part of a small ultrasound team.
The successful candidate will provide an efficient, effective, quality assured and patient-centred ultrasound service.
Qualifications and Essential Skills:
- BSc or equivalent Qualification in Radiography/Sonography. Non National Qualifications must be validated by the Department of Health and Children
- Minimum 2 years in ultrasound.
- Excellent IT skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to work on own initiative
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- The post-holder will be regarded as the highest purely clinical grade in the Imaging section and as such will fulfil the requirements of their role within the Imaging team, being able to demonstrate specialised knowledge and expertise in all aspects of the modality.
- Be able to perform all types of diagnostic ultrasound procedures as required and manage patient priority as appropriate.
- Be able to produce a high standard and quality of diagnostic ultrasound imaging, while demonstrating high standards of care.
- Independently report on all performed ultrasound examinations without clinical input.
- Be responsible for training, teaching and supervision of qualified junior staff and assistant staff in both the delivery of the service and their individual development needs.
- Assist in and manage, workflow, ensuring all data inputs are recorded for both patient record integrity and statistical evaluation purposes.
- Contribute to developing the highest professional and technical standards in all staff, using personal example and constructive supervision.
- Demonstrate partnership in professional development issues, maintaining a high level of technical and theoretical skills through personal CPD.
- Participate in the governance of the department in areas including risk management, health and safety, research and audit activities.
- Participate in the Clinics competency framework to ensure that all staff are made aware of, assessed and supported against the core competencies for their grade. As documented in the Knowledge and Skills Framework outline for the post.
Job Dimensions / Accountabilities
The post holder will be responsible to the Senior Lead Sonographer.
The post holder will show consideration towards micro economics of the section, but will not be responsible for the sectional Budget.

Education
- DMU or Pg Certificate or Diploma in Medical Ultrasound
- Current HPC registration
- DCR/BSc Health Professional
- Further relevant Study
- MSc ultrasound
- Broad range of ultrasound experience, to include Obstetrics, abdominal, MSK, Vascular testes & Gynaecology .
- Recent NHS experience
- An interest in customer care and quality related issues
- Independently reporting above scan arrears
- Good communication skills (verbal and written)
- Able to work under pressure
- Organizational skills
- Flexible and receptive to change
- Computer literate
- Motivated (self and others)
- Willingness to undertake training and practice in new areas of ultrasound
- Abides by Professional code of conduct/scheme of work.
- Ability to develop effective working relationships

- Competent in IT skills relevant to the post OD
- Able to demonstrate effective numeracy and literacy skills AF/R/I
- Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Ultrasound or equivalent OD
- HPC registration (can be newly qualified) OD
- Minimum of 1st Degree or equivalent OD
- Able to demonstrate competency in performing 1-2 scans/ examinations AF/R/I
- Able to demonstrate an understanding of clinical and professional initiatives and knowledge relevant to the service area AF/R/I
- Experience of line management of staff AF/R/I
- Experience of service planning and implementation AF/R/I
- Demonstrate understanding of relevant health, safety & security issues AF/R/I
- Willing to contribute effectively in service development/redesign projects AF/R/I
- Ability to work under pressure in a dynamic and demanding environment AF/R/I
- Able to demonstrate an understanding of clinical governance issues relevant to the service / AF/R/I
