Salary:  TBA according to skills and experience

Hours of Duty:  37.5hrs

Role Summary: The position of Clinical Specialist in Ultrasound in Ultrasound requires an ability to work as part of a small ultrasound team.

If the applying candidate is a validated radiographer they will be required to work in general xray on occasion with approx 80% of their time spent in ultrasound dependant on departmental requirements.

The successful candidate will provide an efficient, effective, quality assured and patient-centred ultrasound service.

Qualifications and Essential Skills:

  • BSc or equivalent Qualification in Radiography/Sonography. Non National Qualifications must be validated by the Department of Health and Children
  • Minimum 2 years in ultrasound.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:
  • The post-holder will be regarded as the highest purely clinical grade in the Imaging section and as such will fulfil the requirements of their role within the Imaging team, being able to demonstrate specialised knowledge and expertise in all aspects of the modality.
  • Be able to perform all types of diagnostic ultrasound procedures as required and manage patient priority as appropriate.
  • Be able to produce a high standard and quality of diagnostic ultrasound imaging, while demonstrating high standards of care.
  • Independently report on all performed ultrasound examinations without clinical input.
  • Be responsible for training, teaching and supervision of qualified junior staff and assistant staff in both the delivery of the service and their individual development needs.
  • Assist in and manage, workflow, ensuring all data inputs are recorded for both patient record integrity and statistical evaluation purposes.
  • Contribute to developing the highest professional and technical standards in all staff, using personal example and constructive supervision.
  • Demonstrate partnership in professional development issues, maintaining a high level of technical and theoretical skills through personal CPD.
  • Participate in the governance of the department in areas including risk management, health and safety, research and audit activities.

Job Dimensions / Accountabilities

The post holder will be responsible to the Senior Lead Sonographer.

The post holder will show consideration towards micro economics of the section, but will not be responsible for the sectional Budget.

  • Current HPC registration
