Vacancy: Cashier
Background: Jacaranda Health is a social venture that aims to set a new standard for maternity care in East Africa.
We are combining business and clinical innovations to provide affordable maternity and reproductive health services to low-income urban women.
As it builds a network of maternity hospitals, Jacaranda Health launched one clinic in Nairobi in 2012, a second in 2014, and one more is in process in the region.
Job Summary: We are seeking to hire a cashier to work in our Maternity Hospitals.
Reporting to the Director of Finance and Impact Evaluation, the cashier will primarily be responsible for receiving and disbursing money at the point of payment.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Receive payment by cash, check, credit cards, vouchers, or automatic debits.
- Issue receipts, refunds, credits, or change due to customers.
- Count money in cash drawers at the beginning of shifts to ensure that amounts are correct and that there is adequate change.
- Maintain correct cash balances at cash registers.
- Establish or identify prices of services or admission, and tabulate bills using calculators, cash registers, or optical price scanners.
- Calculate total payments received during a time period, and reconcile this with total sales.
- Compute and record totals of transactions.
- Keep periodic balance sheets of amounts and numbers of transactions.
- Post charges against patients’ accounts.
Requirements:
- Minimum CPA part 1.
- At least 1-2 years’ proven working experience as a cashier
- Basic computer knowledge and familiarity with electronic equipment (e.g. cash register, scanners, money counters etc)
- Strong communication and time management skills
- Attention to detail and mathematical skills
