Director/Chief Executive Officer
Our client, the Consortium for National Health Research (CNHR), is an international not-for-profit public/private partnership that brings together leading teaching and research institutions in Kenya undertaking research-for-health activities (www.cnhrkenya.org). 
CNHR, as a grant giving body, is committed to supporting high quality multidisciplinary research aligned to Kenya’s health priorities. Since 2008, the Consortium has been supported and funded by the Department of International Development (DfID), United Kingdom Government and Wellcome Trust, United Kingdom by a 7-year grant of 10M Pounds.

CNHR would like to recruit a vibrant, strong, innovative research leader for the position of Director/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) . Reporting to the Board of Management, the Director will provide leadership towards the achievement of the Consortium’s mission, goals and objectives.
The role holder will also be required to provide scientific, administrative and

financial leadership and will play a key role in attracting funding and in building and maintaining effective relationships with strategic partners.


As CNHR’s current funding portfolio by Wellcome Trust/DFID will end in September 2015, the incumbent’s early critical responsibilities will be to attract renewed and new funds for Phase 2 of CNHR in the current very competitive funding environment.

The successful candidate will have a PhD or its medical equivalent in a health, biomedical and or related field, at least 10-15 years of relevant experience in research in a reputable institution, of which, at least 5 years should be in a senior academic (at least Associate Professor) or management within a university, research institution/development industry.

S/he will need to have a good understanding of the Kenya health research capacity strengthening needs and will need to demonstrate competency and proven ability in strategic planning, resource mobilisation, communication, management and technical leadership. An international competitive package will be offered and negotiated with the suitable candidate for the position.
