Head of Credit Risk Management
Job Purpose: Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Head of Credit will take charge of and manage the Bank’s credit function efficiently and effectively in order to ensure profitability, maintain a quality loan book and ensure that the organisation is not exposed to credit risk.
 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement of the Bank’s credit strategy.
  • Formulate and implement the Bank’s credit policy.
  • Conduct regular reviews of the credit policy to ensure its relevance to business requirements and CBK and statutory regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with the Bank’s credit policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that customers’ financing needs for working capital and capital expenditure are addressed appropriately and profitably through the offer of suitable credit products.
  • Formulate and optimize credit scoring strategies in various business areas.
  • Ensure and maintain proper documentation of all advances.
  • Liaise with valuers and advocates to monitor perfection of securing documentation in conformity with the terms of offer letters.
  • Ensure compliance with Central Bank guidelines in relation to credit transactions, asset classification, income recognition and provisioning norms.
  • Manage credit risk though regular analysis and evaluation;
  • Make recommendations and develop techniques and strategies to manage, control and mitigate risk.
  • Liaise with the Credit Reference Bureau on prospects/ commitment clients and report our under performing files to ensure non- migration of bad assets within the industry.
  • Carry out credit appraisals to vet all credit proposals from branches and other lines of business.
  • Monitor and administer credit performance through reports and returns from officers/ branches.
  • Liaise with the compliance team to ensure lending activities within the pre-determined risk profile and statutory / regulatory requirements.
  • Overall control of the lending book; manage all substandard and bad accounts to maximize recovery and ensure that appropriate and timely loan loss provisions have been made.
  • Provide oversight and guidance on the credit cycle operations across the business and to business heads.
  • Prepare and submit reports on credit control, risk and bad debts.
  • Manage all credit related matters with a high degree of integrity.
  • Manage, lead and develop staff in the credit department.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
  • A Bachelors Degree in a Business or Finance related field.
  • A Masters Degree in a relevant field will be an added advantage.
  • A minimum of 10 years experience in a credit function, 5 of which must be in senior managerial level within a bank, financial institution or other service oriented organisation.
  • Financial/credit risk and analysis training and other relevant credit training at an advanced level.
  • Experience in and understanding of credit processes, lending and customer care.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Banking Act and Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) clearing procedures and prudential guidelines.
