Programme Officer (Grants) Job Opening at CNHR Kenya May 2014

 

Our client, the Consortium for National Health Research (CNHR) is a not-for-profit partnership between the public and private sectors aimed at bringing together leading teaching and research institutions to undertake high quality multidisciplinary research beneficial to Kenya’s health priorities. 
All CNHR programmes are implemented by Partners with grants from the Consortium.
The Programme Officer – Grants will be the primary point of contact with prospective and existing
grantee researchers, and administratively responsible for all Grants Oversight. 
That includes the review, monitoring, assessment and timely reporting on grantee project work while assisting the Head of Scientific Programmes in the general programme administration and financial management of the full scientific portfolio. 

S/he will take direct responsibility for facilitating prospective and existing CNHR grantee partners to: successfully apply for grants, utilise them, scientifically report on, and financially account for those grants. 

The job holder will also play a leading role in interpreting, collating and disseminating CNHR related research findings to the Kenyan public and specialist scientific communities among other target audiences. 
Your results will be measured on:

Programme Management in assisting the identification of critical research issues and the development of collaborative research and information sharing; grantee attraction, education, motivation and other assistance; monitoring and reporting on the progress of research projects; coordination of field visits and other logistics; and management of the grants database. 

Also on: own contributions to new initiatives in resource mobilisation; public relations (PR); knowledge sharing with health research, policy and institutions/networks including those in government; and the Consortiums wider public and scientific participation.
Grants Management as the process owner and lead innovator in: monitoring and evaluation (M&E), reporting, ensuring compliance with funder requirements and advising on the cost effectiveness of CNHR’s grants portfolio; verifying, maintaining and reporting on financial and programme activity records of every grant and funder; preparing periodic reports and funding disbursement requests to funders; and together with the Accountant preparing grants’ work plans and budgets and the overall expenditure projections for the scientific programmes.

You must be highly results focused, collaborative, efficient, self-organised towards strict deadlines, and effective in facilitating people to jointly own goals. 

You need to at least have:
  • a Masters’ degree, preferably in Development Projects Management ideally in a health related discipline such as health systems, public health or medical/biomedical. 
  • Additional training in grants/research results reporting and financial administration would be an added advantage.
  • 5 years’ experience in a similar role, with clear competence in programme delivery. 
  • Also in M&E; the reporting of results to specialist scientific and general public audiences; coordination of conferences; and financial accountability.
  • Excellent interpersonal and other people skills in group facilitation, oral and written communication and personal presentation, preferably with good understanding of both the needs of general public information and the rigor of scientific reporting and discourse.
