High Value Fundraising Manager at ActionAid Kenya May 2014

 

ActionAid International Kenya seeks to recruit a qualified High Value Fundraising Manager.

Reporting to the Head of Fundraising, the High Value (HV) Fundraising Manager shall be responsible for the implementation of High Value (including grants from companies, individuals or charitable trusts/foundations over KES. 5 Million) fundraising strategies aimed at generation of adequate resources for AAIK programmes.

Key responsibilities will include the following;

Strategic and Leadership

Taking the leading role in AAIK’s High Value Fundraising programme, both locally and internationally in line with the Fundraising Strategy.

The person will be responsible for cultivating new relationships with HV donors to generate new funding opportunities and ensure effective account management of existing and incoming AAIK High Value Partnerships.

Functional and Operational

  • Develop operational HV fundraising strategies and actions for both local and international markets
  • Conduct periodic HV donor scoping and intelligence both in the local and international arena
  • Cultivate relationships with local and  International High Value Donors including  Charitable Trusts and Foundations (e.g Rockefeller, Ford), Corporates and Individuals to generate funding opportunities;
  • Respond (developing concepts and proposals) to HV calls for proposals emerging in the local and international market in line with AAIK Programme Led Funding Guidelines
  • Maintain High Value donor relations by ensuring proper contract management of HV projects financial reporting and other accountability issues as may be required by the donors;
  • Facilitate and coordinate the funding planning process in collaboration with the relevant AAIK departments and units
  • Develop and maintain productive working relationships and influence with high value donors based within and outside the country;
  • Coordinate programmes and LRP teams in updating the AAI’s Projects Seeking Donors (PSD) section of the AAI Website with new concept notes, proposals, and contractual information and ensure Funding Plans are current;
  • Maintain a data base of all HV donors including Companies, Major Donors, Trusts and Foundations
Technical and support
  • Conduct capacity assessment to guide capacity building plans in high value fundraising for all programme staff;
  • Facilitate the delivery of staff capacity building initiatives based on findings from the assessment with emphasis on contract management, proposal and report writing;
  • Advise staff developing proposals on high value donor requirements and eligibility issues;
  • Review funding proposals for compliance with high value donor requirements and coherence prior to submission;
  • Documentation of lessons learnt on fundraising and facilitates sharing to promote best practise;
  • Support the delivery of inception workshops for new partnership projects; and
  • Perform any other lawful duties that you may be assigned from time to time.
Appointment to the position will be made from persons who have:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Development Studies/Social Sciences or its equivalent from a recognized University, a Master’s Degree is desirable;
  • Satisfactorily served as fundraising/ resource mobilization officer  or a comparable position with similar responsibilities in like organizations for a minimum period of five (5) years; and
  • Demonstrated in-depth understanding of programming issues, resource mobilization including proposal development, donor reporting and managing donor relations. 
  • Is member of the Association of Fundraisers in Kenya;
  • Demonstrable experience of raising funds from high value donors; and
  • Strong understanding of project management.
Key Competencies
  • A proven ability to secure major gifts/grants (including seven figure level in KES) from high net-worth individuals, companies and trusts/foundations in Kenya
  • Entrepreneurial and target driven with evidence of commercial acumen
  • Enthusiastic self-starter who is independent, self-motivated and can work off their own initiative
  • Knowledge and understanding of the philanthropy sector and best practice, particularly corporate  Social Responsibility (CSR) issues and practice in Kenya and also globally
  • Excellent verbal communication skills both face-to-face and on the phone skills
  • Good presentation skills including personal etiquette and courtesy
  • Good Inter-personal relations skills
  • Good Public relations and marketing skills
  • Understanding of different HV donor requirements and ways of working;
  • Some existing networks within the philanthropy and/or CSR field in the Africa region
  • Understanding of the laws of contract;
  • International relations to understand the position taken by donors;
  • Good conceptual, analytical, communication  and proposal-writing skills;
  • High level of IT proficiency in use of MS Word, Excel, Access, Power-point, and e-mail; and
  • Good line management skills
  • Excellent team player.
