Hotel Chief Accountant Job Vacancy in Nairobi Kenya April 2014

 

Our client a new upscale hotel that has just opened up in Nairobi is in need of a Chief Accountant.
 
Title: Chief Accountant
Reporting to: General Manager 
The individual will ensure the accuracy of stocks, accounts payable, prepayments, and creditor/accruals accounting records and provide periodic reports to the Finance department. 
Will also be responsible for maintaining the General Ledger and the preparation of monthly financial statements, and he/she must have a complete understanding of all hotel operations and finances and maintain a good working relationship with other departments in the hotel.
 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist the Finance Team by providing full and accurate forecasting and budgeting proposals within the hotel and in other areas where required
  • Provide timely and accurate financial statements
  • Ensure all financial regulations are met, through the maintenance of adequate systems of internal control
  • Assist in preparing capital reviews as required by the General/Hotel Manager and/or accountancy and Finance department
  • Train and develop the local Finance Team Members and ensure succession plans are in place
  • Develop financial awareness of local management teams 
  • Coordinates and implements accounting work and projects as assigned. 
  • Coordinates, implements and follows up on Accounting SOP audits for all areas of the property. 
  • Generates and provides accurate and timely results in the form of reports, presentations, etc. 
  • Analyzes information and evaluates results to choose the best solution and solve problems. 
  • Compiles, codes, categorizes, calculates, tabulates, audits, or verifies information or data. 
  • Balances credit card ledgers.
The ideal candidate should have the following: 
  • Experience in the hotel/ leisure 
  • Excellent supervisory experience 
  • Relevant degree, in Finance, Accounting or related business discipline, from an academic institution and a CPA (K) 
  • Full understanding of financial operating systems and procedures 
  • Strong influencing, leadership skills, inter-personal and communication skills 
  • Excellent analytical skills
