Job Title: General Manager – Group Business

Job Location: CfC House, Nairobi

Department: Group Business

Purpose of the Job: To take full ownership and end to end accountability for the Group Business (Group Risk and Pensions) and manage it as a commercially viable operating unit which is customer focused with engaged and motivated employees who contribute to the overall success of the Group business.

Job Objectives

  • To define a strategy for the operating unit that is aligned to and supports the overall company strategy with respect to group business and is built on sound business principles.
  • To develop operational plans to deliver on the strategy and closely monitor execution of the group business to ensure optimal functioning.
  • To optimally apply commercial and financial principles in the management of the group business and ensure that these practices are embedded in their teams (expense and revenue management).
  • To grow income revenues for the group business and to ensure that key drivers of new business and retention rates are achieved as per the budget.
  • To ensure that business written is profitable to the company in order to increase shareholder value
  • To grow the bancassurance, affinity and broker channels
  • To balance excellence in customer service with efficient business processes to ensure commercial viability
  • To lead, develop skills, coach and mentor the team and ensure the retention of skilled, productive and engaged thinking people who will provide pro-active, proficient and efficient services to existing and potential clients in order to grow market share and retain existing business
  • To proactively manage relationships for existing and potential clients. Likewise maintain close liaison with other departments in the business.
  • To drive changes in order to meet the strategic business objectives of the group business by closely monitoring the execution of the channels strategy.
  • To conduct Market Research and Intelligence on competitor activities to inform business judgement.
Academic and Professional Qualification
  • MBA preferably in Finance or Strategic Management or equivalent postgraduate qualification in business.
  • ACII or FLMI
Experience and Knowledge
  • Insurance/Financial industry experience preferably in a high performing group business environment with at least 7 years at senior management level Excellent relationship management
  • Knowledge of Relevant legislation (i.e. Long-term insurance, Broker business, Pension Fund, Bancassurance)
  • Knowledge of Relevant products in the market
  • Relationships management and People management knowledge
  • Working knowledge of Long term group business
  • Financial knowledge (Group Business)
  • Industry sector Knowledge
Specific Computer Skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
