Clearing Agent – Mombasa
  • Exercise due diligence to ascertain the correctness of any information which he imparts to a client with reference to any Customs operations;
  • Promptly pay over to Government when due, all sums received for payment of any duties, taxes or other debts or obligations owing to the Government and promptly account to his clients any money received for them from Government, or received from them in excess of Governmental, or the other charges properly payable in respect of the clients Customs operations
  • Inform the Customs administration any change of address before such change is effected.
  • Ensure purchased goods are delivered to the respective buyers.
  • Handle documentation related to the shipments, including insurance forms and dispatch forms.
  • Ensure the shipment is compliant with the hazardous shipping compliance information.
  • Keep track of routing information.
  • Verify that the carrier used is properly licensed.
  • Develop logistics, which are used to track changes and ensure delivery of goods..
  • Orders containers, which will be used for packaging cargo to be delivered to the right locations
  • Researching freight rates.
  • Calculating and processing duties and taxes to be paid.
  • Weigh, measure, and check materials, supplies, and equipment for the purpose of keeping relevant records.
  • Managing customs documentation, tracking of advance license availability, usage & balance, closure & record keeping, managing data and clearance documentation
  • Handle the total chain of export and import documentation activities.
  • Review of enquired received from aftermarket customers, obtain clarifications wherever required, follow-up and initiate appropriate activities until receipt of customer order/development order.
  • Cargo classification introduction to law of carriage economics of shipping office management shipping practice
  • Liaising with Customers.
  • Allocating the correct licence depending on type of goods being imported.
  • Be fully conversant with import and export laws and regulations
  • Keep up-to-date with changes as they occur, so as to be able to advise customers on import and export restrictions, tariff systems, insurance requirements and all other customs related matters.
  • Post bonds for the products being imported or assist clients in obtaining bonds.
  • Prepare the necessary import documentation such as certificates of origin and cargo control documents.
  • Liaise with officials in various agencies to ensure goods are cleared through customs or quarantine.
  • Arrange for transportation, warehousing or product distribution of imported or exported goods and liaise with Freight Forwarders.
Key skills and qualifications
  • Diploma or University degree in clearing, forwarding or any purchase related studies.
  • At least 3 years experience as a clearing and forwarding agent
  • Should be a current Mombasa resident
  • Preferred candidate is 26-30 years old
  • Be willing and able to work on-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Good customer service skills
  • Attention to detail.
  • Good hands-on experience of computers & knowledge of government rules, procedures & customs procedures.
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Must be conversant with clearing and forwarding
  • Complete knowledge of export formalities.
