Role: Category Manager (Beauty & Personal Care)
Reporting to: Chief Marketing Officer
Category Manager – Role Overview
The category manager in the execution of strategic marketing plans is the in-store expert in the merchandising, pricing, management, and sales of Beauty & Personal Care products.

As the expert of these specific category of products, the in-depth knowledge of the category manager will drive the pricing, shelving, marketing and promotions of the category’s products in order to make them as visible, accessible, and appealing to customers as possible.

The category manager contributes to the profitability of the retail locations by increasing the volume of products that are sold within the category, and improving the speed of inventory turnover within the category.
The Category Manager will take charge of the ordering, pricing, and in-store organization of products (planograms).
The Category manager is responsible for driving sales by category product planning.
As a category manager, you will need to have a working knowledge of the products, consumer needs, buying practices, sales goals and retail environment related to your merchandise category.
 
Key Responsibilities of a Category Manager:
The overall responsibility of the category manager is to optimize sales for a particular group of products.
To do that, it is essential that the category manager be able to maintain a productive relationship with vendors that is mutually beneficial, as well as create an engaging relationship with customers that is interactive and satisfying.
The primary responsibilities of a category manager are Vendor Management, Pricing & Marketing, and Planning &Inventory Control and implemented as outlined in the Category Management 8 step process and Nielson below:

  • implementing strategy
  • evaluating results
The Key Category Management competencies are to:
  • Be an expert on categories; including market pricing, and competitive product quality analysis
  • Be able to define the product strategy and roadmap
  • Be able to Maximize SKU productivity
  • Account specific plans for key customers
  • Be an expert at Data analysis
  • Develop sales tools and collateral
  • Be an expert with respect on Competitor analysis
  • Train the retail team on assigned category
Required experience and knowledge:
  • Bachelor’s Degree required or related job experience
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks at once
  • Must have strong decision-making and problem solving skills
  • Must have a sense of urgency and be deadline-oriented
  • Must have strong analytical skills
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills and communication skills.
  • Demonstrates attention to detail /organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communications.
  • Ability to work independently within a team environment
Product development/management or Retail experience a plus
