Project / Proposal Summary:
Following the 2011 food security crisis, 3.8 million Kenyans required food assistance, and many of these continue to need relief and recovery assistance today.
The goal of the WFP program is to support recovery from this crisis as well as build community resilience to drought through a combination of food and cash assistance, combined with asset creation activities such as rainwater harvesting and land management, that promote resilience to shocks that may adversely impact food security.
Position Summary:
MSI is seeking to hire one Kenyan Field Monitor.
The Field Monitor will be responsible for carrying out the field visits, conducting a series of program monitoring and verification visits of WFP PRRO activities and drafting and disseminating monitoring reports in consultation with EA/FFP.
The period of performance will be 6 months, starting March 2014.
The candidate may be given longer term opportunities.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct a series of program monitoring and verification visits of WFP PRRO;
- Design a methodology and monitoring plan:
- Carry out interviews within homes, at community gatherings, at project sites, at food distributions, with implementing partner staff and other stakeholders and with non-beneficiaries
- Write field reports; and
- Participate in multi-agency assessment.
Qualifications:
- 2 years of related and progressively responsible work experience;
- Bachelors degree relevant to food security and food aid program management (Agriculture, Nutrition, International Development or Economics). Relevant Masters is desirable;
- Willingness to regularly undertake extensive field work assignments, in rough conditions;
- Experience with USAID or another donor;
- High proficiency in both written and spoken English;
- Basic computer skills to include knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, and email and internet fluency;
- Ability to work cooperatively in teams and multicultural environments;
- Experience in Qualitative and Quantitative research or field monitoring; and
- Good communication skills and a solution seeking attitude.
