Instructional Coaches Jobs recruitment at Wasichana Wote Wasome Project  in Mombasa and Nairobi Kenya 2014

 

Background: Wasichana Wote Wasome Project (WWW – ‘Let All Girls Read’) is a three year’ DfID funded project that aims at improving school enrolment, retention, attendance and learning outcomes for 81,000 marginalised girls in Kenya.
Position: Instructional Coach 

Mombasa (3 Posts) and Nairobi (6 Posts)

The project will work in 500 primary schools and the communities they serve in two contexts: Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs) and urban slums in eight counties namely: Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, Tana River, Marsabit, Samburu, Turkana and Nairobi.

The incumbent will report to CfBT’s Regional Coordinator and will be assigned to a cluster of complimentary (Non-public) schools within Non-formal settlements in Nairobi and Mombasa counties.
The key responsibility will be to support and coach teachers for improved learning outcomes of pupils in early grade learning in the project intervention schools.
The Coach will carry out regular observation of teaching and learning processes in the classroom and provide continuous guidance to teachers to improve literacy and numeracy at the early grade levels.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of a two year college certificate in Education or its equivalent.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Education is an added advantage;
  • Eight years’ experience of teaching in lower primary school, with demonstrated skill in teaching early grade in literacy and numeracy;
  • Knowledge and experience working in informal settlements;
  • Skilled in supportive observation of teachers and students and provision of constructive feedback as teachers learn new skills;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Kiswahili;
  • High level of integrity, interpersonal skills and professional responsibility;
  • demonstrated enthusiasm and commitment to improving education outcomes in marginalised and hard to reach areas;
  • Basic IT skills such as email, Microsoft Word and Microsoft and ability to work in cultural, ethnic, educational and religious diversity,
