Kenya Sugar Board, the regulatory body of the Kenyan Sugar Industry is looking for experienced, highly motivated and result oriented individuals to join its team.
The incumbents must be self-driven individuals who will provide strategic leadership and focus on the achievement of departmental targets.
They will work with their departmental teams in spearheading/embracing innovations, work ethics and ensuring high levels of integrity.

1. Head of Sugar Technology

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Head of Sugar Technology’s key responsibilities will be to:
  • Facilitate the formulation and implementation of policies on sugar production and co-products
  • Prepare, implement, control and review departmental budgets
  • Advice on the planning of appropriate maintenance and rehabilitation of the existing sugar mills
  • Evaluate and advise on proposals for setting up new sugar mills
  • Co-ordinate evaluation of sugar and jaggary mills for licensing
  • Carry out studies on the improvement of product quality, cost reduction, equipment standardization and quality control
  • Review factory performance and give appropriate advice to management
  • Review technical proposals/reports and provide appropriate advice to management
  • Co-ordinate road maintenance within the sugar cane growing areas
  • Co-ordinate the control of pollution levels and advice on best practices in environmental management
  • Ensure proper analysis of process chemicals to ensure compliance with set standards
  • Co-ordinate routine analysis of sugar for compliance with set standards
  • Supervise all engineering works
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by Management
Academic and Professional Qualifications
  • Masters degree in Chemical Engineering, Post Graduate qualifications in Sugar Technology/Food Science Technology/Manufacturing Technology.
  • Qualifications in Projects Management will be an added advantage.
Relevant Work Experience
The ideal candidate must have at least 10 years relevant experience 5 of which must have been gained in a food manufacturing industry.
 
Special Qualities
Work with minimum supervision, be analytical, have interpersonal skills, initiative and drive.
 
2. Legal Officer
Reporting to the Company Secretary, the Legal Officer’s key responsibilities will be to:
  • Draft and verify legal documents
  • Effectively represent KSB in Court
  • Undertake conveyancing process
  • Participate in the preparation of Board papers
  • Assist in all procedural matters relating to the Industry’s Arbitration Board, Annual General Meetings, KSB Board meetings, and standing committees
  • Liaise with other institutions to ensure quick discharge of cases involving KSB
  • Assist in expediting the processing of KSB Insurance matters
  • Assist in the formulation of standard agreements governing the rights and obligations of growers, millers and other stakeholders
  • Assist in effective debt collecting machinery
  • Perform any other duties assigned by Management.
Academic and Professional Qualifications
Bachelor of Laws – LLB; Diploma in Legal Studies, Advocate of the High Court of Kenya.
 
Qualification and Experience
The ideal candidate must have at least 5 years of relevant experience.

  • High integrity, able to work independently, confidential, impartial, good interpersonal skills, assertive and computer literate.
  • He/She must be a person of integrity, demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be a team player.
3. Management Accountant
Reporting to the Head of Finance the Management Accountant’s key responsibilities will be: 
Key Responsibilities
  • Preparation of annual budgets as a tool for providing direction and control to the organization
  • Consolidation of departmental budgets
  • Preparation of budgets for submission in the required reporting format
  • Preparation of quarterly management accounts as a monitoring tool and decision making
  • Preparation of annual financial statements
  • Responding to issues raised by external auditors, AWD PIC, MOA,
  • Treasury and any other
  • Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements and other deadlines e.g. tax returns
  • Maintenance of accountable documents e.g. cheques, receipt books, LPO Books
  • Preparation of Management Accounts
  • Maintenance of investment records
Academic and Professional Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in commerce/Business Administration with specialization in Accounting/Finance.
  • Must have CPA Final/ACCA Final/CMA final or equivalent
Relevant Work Experience
The ideal candidate should have at least 7 years relevant experience 3 of which must be in a senior accounting position.
Special Qualities
High integrity, independent, computer literate, good leadership skills, analytical and good negotiation skills.
