Job Vacancy at USAID SHOPS Project Kenya for Training Constultant – Business Trainer / Private Health 2013
Purpose of Assignment:
The purpose of the assignment is to plan and train private providers in Kenya on business management based on the Health Mini MBA Program developed by the Strengthening Health Outcomes through the Private Sector (SHOPS) Project.
Brief Background:
The Strengthening Health Outcomes through the Private Sector (SHOPS) Project is a global five-year USAID-funded program which aims to expand the role of the private sector, including non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and for-profit entities in the sustainable provision and use of high-quality Family Planning/ Reproductive Health, HIV/AIDS, and other health information, products, and services.
In the past, a major constraint to private health sector development has been limited access to financing.
1. Working with local financial institutions to expand lending to the private sector.
2. Providing business training and support directly to private providers to increase their management skills and ability to access and manage finance.
SHOPS is piloting a set of business management training courses under the umbrella name “Health Mini MBA Program or HBA” which consists of 22 short training modules covering various aspects of business such as management, operations, marketing, quality management and finance.
Specific Tasks:
The purpose of this assignment is to assist SHOPS in marketing and delivering a serious of business management courses under an umbrella name of Health Mini MBA.
Phase One:
- Assist SHOPS trainer to deliver selected parts of the HBA curriculum and assess the validity and appropriateness of the training for the local market
- Develop a framework for conducting a full scale course based on HBA
- Acquire skills and techniques necessary to successfully conduct HBA training and assess its impact on the participants
- Plan, market, and conduct HBA training programs for private health providers
- Provide follow-on assistance to training participants as needed
- Analyze the training outcomes through follow-up knowledge gains and changes in business outcomes
- Liaise and strategize with private health networks and professional associations to make the program broadly known in the country.
- Provide inputs into the pilot training modules
- Develop a framework for teaching the HBA courses in Kenya
- Develop a detailed work plan to include three cycles of HBA of trainings in three different locations in Kenya
- Conduct trainings identified in work plan
- Provide a detailed report of the trainings conducted
The candidates should have experience in developing and conducting adult professional training in business management, preferably to small businesses, using adult learning participatory methods.
Timing of Consultancy
This contract is expected to commence on or about December 1, 2013 and remain in effect until September 30, 2014.
Duty Station/Location: Nairobi, Kenya, with potential for domestic travel for off-site trainings
