Inter Agency Working Group on Disaster Preparedness (IAWG) Coordinator Job Vacancy in Nairobi Kenya November 2013
The Inter-Agency Working Group (IAWG) provides a forum for regional organizations: NGOs, the International Federation of the Red Cross and United Nations agencies – to enhance information exchange and regional coordination in order to respond to emergencies in a timely and cost efficient manner.
The IAWG advocates for effective integration of disaster risk management and climate change adaptation into humanitarian and relief interventions, and to foster collaboration between humanitarian partners for inclusive and responsive humanitarian policies and systems.
The IAWG is looking to recruit a Coordinator to further the IAWG objectives, manage the IAWG secretariat and support its working groups.
Job Title: Coordinator – Inter Agency Working Group (IAWG) (Secondment)
- You will represent members providing liaison, information, coordination and advocacy services and acting as the first point of contact for members and external stakeholders.
- You will play an important role in maintaining good relations with members and external actors in particular in promoting the work of the IAWG and securing funding for its activities.
- You will providing support to working groups in their administration, outreach and activities.
- You will manage the IAWG secretariat ensuring efficient operations and procedures in support of the IAWG and its members.
Key Areas of Accountability:
Representation and coordination:
- Represent the IAWG and its members within administrative, INGO or government forums, ensuring professional liaison with various authorities.
- Develop a fundraising strategy for the IAWG. Identify and follow up on potential funding options – with approval from the core group.
- Network with existing and potential members, promoting the core values and interests of the IAWG
- Manage the IAWG website
- Provide logistical support to working group and IAWG events.
- Organise the IAWG AGM, determining agenda, identifying and securing logistics and ensuring active participation
- Support the IAWG core group and its co-chairs with secretarial services, minute taking, maintenance of mailing lists etc.
- Manage subscription list and follow up on subscription fees, where possible identifying new members.
- Monitor accounts on a monthly basis by keeping track of outstanding invoices and accruals.
- Reconciliation of the deposits account in liaison with Finance e .g working group costs, event expenditures
- Ensure transparent and accountable financial management and reporting

- University degree in International Relations, Business Management, Public Relations or related field. Post graduate preferable only if connected with practical experience.
- At least 7 years of relevant experience.
- Experience working with an international non-governmental organisation with regional exposure is desirable
- Proven ability to handle challenging work load
- Cross-cultural experience, understanding and sensitivity;
- Experience managing and supervising staff.
- Excellent interpersonal and written and oral communication skills;
- Ability to travel to meetings in and outside Nairobi
