Supervises / Oversees: Laboratory Technicians, laboratory staff
Purpose of the Job
The incumbent will work under the supervision of the Head of Research and Development to provide technical support to breeders at Company
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Managing day-to-day activities in the molecular biology laboratory, ensuring the observation of good laboratory practices.
- Updating laboratory protocols (SOPs) in the molecular biology laboratory.
- Assessing the genetic diversity on Kenya Seed Company Limited crops gene pool.
- Ordering of appropriate and required equipment and/or reagents/chemicals.
- Maintaining the molecular laboratory inventory.
- Conduct research under the supervision of the Head of Research and Development.
- Coordinating visits in the molecular laboratory.
- Collecting, analyzing and providing data and technical reports thereof.
- Work with breeders in identifying useful QTLs in marker assisted selections in different breeding programs.
- Carrying out any other duties as may be directed by management
Job Specification
- A MSc. degree in plant biotechnology or molecular biology or related discipline from a recognized university.
- At least 4 years’ experience in a molecular biology laboratory (including PCR, sequencing, genotyping and genomics).
- Have knowledge of molecular laboratory health and safety procedures.
- Be computer literate in MS Office.
- Excellent organization and problem solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as in a team setting.
