CBM is an international development organisation, committed to improving the quality of life of persons with disabilities in the poorest countries of the world.

CBM works with persons with disabilities, their families, local partner organisations, alliance partners including UN agencies, global organisations, and Disabled Persons’ Organisations (DPOs).

CBM has been involved from the outset with “VISION 2020: The Right to Sight”, a global initiative with the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) to eliminate avoidable blindness by the year 2020, and other global initiatives such as the provision of affordable hearing aids, education for all and community mental health.

CBM is also recognised as a collaborating organisation by the World Health Organization (WHO) and has consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
Together with its partner organisations, CBM is active in more than 700 projects in 81 countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America, and in 2011, reached more than 36 million people.

CBM’s International Office in Bensheim, Germany, is accepting applications for

Location: Nairobi, Kenya

Contract Duration: Four years

Contract Start: As soon as possible

Objective: Reporting to the Deputy Vice President Programme Development, the job holder provides leadership required to fulfill the purpose of CBM within the region.

He/she is in charge of the management of the Regional Office and the highest ranking representative of CBM within the region.
Further, he/she will be responsible for the coordination of activities of the local Member Association CBM Kenya.

Main Tasks:

I. Representation

  • Act as an Ambassador of CBM in the region
  • Promote the cause of CBM and advocating for inclusion of persons with disability
  • Promote the brand of CBM, it stature and profile
  • Liaise with government and supra-national bodies in the region
  • Liaise with international and local NGOs in the region
  • Promote networking and alliance building with stakeholders in the region
  • Carry out a variety of legal, ceremonial, social and networking duties
II. Leadership
  • Create and share the right vision for the region
  • Develop a regional human resource inventory
  • Create a working environment conducive to fulfil CBM´s global Vision and regional plan
  • Establish the organisational culture reflecting stated CBM values and promoting a culture that encourages good performance
  • Implement agreed concepts to develop human resources for CBM’s work in the region
  • Assess and appraise CBM staff, national and international, in the region
  • Model inclusion of persons with disability in all aspects of work in the Regional Office
III. Management of Regional Office Structure
  • Manage operations of the Regional Office and supervise the Country Offices operations
  • Ensure that CBM meets international and local legal requirements
  • Take responsibility for efficient management of Regional Office and Country Offices finances
IV. Programme Development
  • Collect and analyse regional information relevant for CBM work
  • Elaborate the Regional Plan including country and CBM mandate concepts
  • Develop plans for partner development
  • Nominate and coordinate regional Teams of Competence according to the needs and requirements of the Regional Plan, specified through Terms of Reference
  • Elaborate multi-year regional plans with partners
  • Monitor the implementation of partners activities
  • Ensure evaluation of partners performance against agreed objectives and activities
  • Allocate and implement annual consolidated budget for the region
  • Develop strategies to support national stakeholders in advocacy of disability issues that further the aims of the Regional Plan
V. Public Relations and Resource Mobilisation
  • Mobilise resources to fund the regional portfolio
  • Support CBM Member Associations (MAs) with appropriate proposals
  • Support CBM MAs with appropriate reporting
  • Develop strategies and concepts promoting visibility of CBM in the region
  • Support CBM MAs with large donor care
