Job Title: Livelihoods Advisor
Location: Wajir
Job Summary:
As part of the AMREF APHIAplus NAL consortium team implementing the USAID – funded APHIAplus program in the northern arid lands of Kenya, the Livelihoods Advisor will lead a regional multi – displinary team implementing interventions that improve the social determinants of health and improve the livelihoods of the marginalized, poor and underserved populations.

S/He will also serve as the project’s livestock technical specialist.
 

Duty or Area of Responsibility
  • Provide technical direction, leadership and training to consortium partners in pastoral livestock-livelihoods, income generation and food security programing;
  • Conduct value chain analyses to identify market opportunities and private sector linkages suited to target beneficiaries;
  • Provide target beneficiaries with opportunities to participate in entrepreneurship and vocational and job-readiness training as well as value-chain and other market-based opportunities by coordinating and linking with other programs and implementers conducting economic, agricultural, livestock, and nutrition development programs;
  • Develop and implement strategies to build the capacity of local partners, government, and households to provide economic strengthening support to target beneficiaries;
  • Supervise a team of field officers in day to day operations.
Required Qualifications:
  • Masters degree in livestock development, community development, agriculture, and/or related fields.
  • At least 5 years of field experience implementing livestock or economic development programs in Kenya required, preferably in hardship areas like NAL.
  • At least 3 years, recent management-level work experience in USAID-funded economic strengthening, livestock development livelihoods or food security programs.
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations and PLHIV, particularly engaging them in economic strengthening interventions.
  • Previous experience working with and building capacity of community-based organizations
  • Knowledge in data analysis is a requirement
  • Strong written/verbal English communication skills; written and verbal.
