Recruitment Vacancy for Short-term Civil Engineering

DAI, a global development consulting firm, seeks applications from qualified Civil Engineers for the Kenya Integrated Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (KIWASH) project.

The Kenya Integrated Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (KIWASH) Project is a five-year, USAID-funded project to improve lives and health through the development and management of sustainable water, sanitation, and hygiene services in Kenya.

Its purpose is to institutionalize catalytic models of sustainable service delivery for accelerated water and sanitation access in nine target counties and to improve complementary hygiene behaviors.

Civil Engineering Job Responsibilities

  • Topographical and other surveys (such as water system functionality checks and location and inspection of water supply system components);
  • Review of existing designs;
  • Feasibility and certified detailed designs (using Ministry of Water and Irrigation and other standard designs);
  • Preparation of procurement documentation, (i.e. general and specific specifications, BOQs, engineers’ cost estimates, drawings – general and scheme specific); and
  • Construction supervision duties (optional).

Qualifications for the Civil Engineering Job

  • At least 3 years of practical civil engineering experience in the assessment, design and preparation of procurement documents for water infrastructure (as described above) in Kenya; AND/OR at least 3 years’ experience supervising water infrastructure (as described above) in Kenya.
  • University degree in civil engineering, at Bachelor’s level.
  • Ability to prepare concise and accurate reports and documents in English.
  • Familiarity with USAID environmental and construction codes, reporting and management requirements preferred, but not essential.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and willingness to travel extensively in the assigned counties.
  • AutoCAD skills to prepare accurate drawings (added advantage)
  • Engineers who are registered with the Institution of Engineers of Kenya Engineers Registration Board (EBK) either as Companions or Associates will be favorably considered.
