ChildFund International, Kenya National Office is recruiting for the following position:
 
Communications Officer
Reporting to the National Director, the Communications Officer communicates about the work and mission of Child Fund through a strategic communications plan that increases awareness and support for ChildFund’s programs and advocacy initiatives in program countries and enhances visibility and brand recognition among key target audiences.
 
Duties / Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement an effective communications plan consistent with the organization’s mission, key messaging, core outcomes and area of excellence.
  • Develop written stories, photos and videos to support visibility, fundraising, PR, advocacy, sponsor care at the international and national level.
  • Identify and seize media opportunities to promote Child Fund’s programs. Handle queries by news media in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Contribute to the advancement of Communications at regional and global levels.
  • As a brand champion in the National Office to promote a unified and clear voice for ChildFund as a leading child-focused international development organization.
  • In coordination with other departments at the National Office, prepare and distribute information, communications and visibility materials to target audiences.
  • During emergency responses, work ¡n close collaboration with the National Emergency Response Team and implement a communications plan on behalf of Child Fund’s emergency programs to all stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement budget and annual work plans.
  • Manage and work with consultants and commissioned writers.
Qualifications / Experience
  • Bachelors Degree in communications or relevant field.
  • A Masters degree will be considered an asset.
  • 5 years’ experience. Demonstrated experience in communication, marketing, public relations, media campaigns and event organization and promotion is required.
  • Experience with website development and content management systems and proficiency in use of social networking and new media tools.
  • Proven extensive contact with editors and journalists from media.
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-cultural team and communicate effectively.
  • Excellent communications skills; fluency in English and Swahili required.
  • Advanced computer skills including MS Office packages, desktop and web-based publishing, photo and video editing.
