Industrial Relations Advisor

Job Purpose:

To provide effective industrial and employee relations support to head office and

field teams as maybe required.

Responsibilities

  • Implement Tullow’s industrial and employee relations strategy.
  • Provide advice and support to Line Managers on implementation of labour laws and corporate policies.
  • Ensure adherence to labour laws, corporate policies and any other contractual agreements that Tullow has with the community, third parties and other stakeholders.
  • Provide advice on grievance and disciplinary procedures to subcontractors and Tullow leadership to ensure that all emerging issues are resolved amicably and speedily to maintain industrial harmony.
  • Receive and conclusively address grievances including pay, discipline and recruitment issues amongst others that have been escalated by the subcontractors or coming directly/ indirectly from the field.
  • Lead and provide guidance on alternative dispute resolution mechanisms such as arbitration to resolve grievances and disputes.
  • Carry out research on best practice employee relations for continuous improvement and enhancement of industrial harmony.
  • Represent the company in disputes involving third parties to protect the company’s interest.
  • Participate in any stakeholder negotiations that affect industrial and employee relations and ensure that Tullow’s interest are protected and covered at all times.
Experience and skills
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Commerce with a specialization in Human Resource or its equivalent.
  • Postgraduate qualification e.g. Higher National Diploma in HR or CIPD is essential
  • A minimum five years experience in industrial relations with key skills in dispute resolution, grievance handling amongst others.
  • Experience working with subcontractors.
  • Strong leadership and influencing skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of labour laws and relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Excellent in interpersonal and communication skills.

Junior Planning Engineer


Tullow Oil is seeking a talented, self motivated, proactive and skilled individual of high personal integrity to fill the Junior Planning Engineer position:

Job Purpose

He/she will assist the Planning Engineer in providing a reliable and responsive and consistent planning service on assigned projects; supervise the development of Company and Contractor schedules for all phases of oil and gas projects and operations; monitor and report progress against these schedules.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Planning Engineer in analyzing project requirements and preparing Project Master Schedule which integrates constraints and strategies for all phases.
  • Support the Planning Engineer in preparing Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), which form the basis for detailed level schedule for reporting and analysis.
  • Issue detailed activity schedules and expedite the return of schedule updating data obtained from the contractors and Tullow team.
  • Support the Planning Engineer in monitoring progress against schedules while analyzing deviations and recommending remedial actions.
  • Prepare agenda items for schedule review meetings.
  • Support the Planning Engineer in facilitating the project change management process.
  • Prepare weekly operations progress reports.
  • Assist the Planning Engineer in preparing and making presentations to project teams and senior management on project status.
  • Assist the Planning Engineer in maintaining schedule related database and the development of new planning tools and methodologies.
The ideal candidate should possess the following minimum skills and competencies;
  • Degree qualified in a relevant discipline.
  • Experience of industry standard project controls systems such as Primavera, Artemis, or MS Project is essential.
  • 2 years experience in project planning & scheduling.
  • Membership of a professional body such as APM or PMI is desirable.

National Content Field Coordinator


Tullow Oil is seeking a talented, self motivated, proactive and skilled individual of high personal integrity to fill the National Content Field Coordinator.

Job Purpose

Reporting to the National Content Manager, you will be responsible for mapping out potential local suppliers from Turkana; build their capacity on how to sucessfully win and deliver contracts. You will also ensure local suppliers understand Tullow’s contracts and procurement standards and requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify opportunities for Turkana businesses in Tullow Kenya supply chain operations.
  • Categorize feasible and potential Turkana businesses and align them with Tullow’s business needs.
  • Establish from procurement plans and contracts any market sectors that require analysis for possible development in Turkana region and build the capacity of local business to venture into these sectors.
  • Ensure contracts with the locals are given appropriate consideration at Commodity Reference Bureau (CRB).
  • Develop opportunities that are geared towards increasing the participation of local suppliers. This includes reviewing the necessary resources required to develop this function effectively in Turkana.
  • Engage with local stakeholders to communicate and clarify on expectations and special projects as well as gather accurate information on local businesses and stakeholders
  • Monitor and investigate performance of Tullow direct suppliers in delivering its supply chain objective and remedy through Contractor performance management processes; liaise closely with Enterprise Development Centres to facilitate performance improvement training, coaching and mentoring services for Turkana businesses, Tullow’s and its Contractors (Turkana suppliers).
  • Effectively communicate current, appropriate and accurate objectives and processes of special projects to all stakeholders within Turkana region.
  • Record and report relevant Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s)
The ideal candidate should possess the following minimum skills and competencies;
  • Post graduate education level in a business or similar related subject is desirable.
  • Minimum 5 years at a supervisory level in a deadline driven, contractually sensitive working environment such as construction project or logistics management or has preformed similar role in the Oil and Gas industry.
  • Substantive exposure to front line interaction with suppliers and clients is essential.
  • Experience in Contracts & Procurement at a Contracts Advisor/Senior Contracts Advisor level.
  • Proven successful experience in working as an interface is paramount: expectations are high and need to be managed realistically.
  • Experience of training, developing and mentoring subordinates is desirable.
  • Commercially aware with sound business acumen.
  • A problem solver with the ability to innovate.
  • Ability to work in a challenging work environment.
