National Sales Manager Job Opportunity in Kenya – FMCG Company – 2014

 Summary: Our client is a mid size company in the fast moving consumer goods sector. It manufactures and distributes a range of domestic and international brands. It has its headquarters in Nairobi with operations in five regions within the country.
The company trades in domestic brands that are household names in the air fresheners, insecticide and deodorant categories.
Through its international partnerships our client distributes shaving products, multivitamin drinks, hair care and colour, shaving products and toothbrushes amongst others.

We would like to recruit a National Sales Manager who will report to the Managing Director and take charge of the sales teams.

 The job holder will be required to work closely with his/ her colleagues in Accounts, Business Development and Production.
You will be responsible for leading and driving all sales activities including merchandising, customer service, after sales, distribution, logistics and on-time deliveries.

Key Responsibilities

  • To give strategic direction in the company’s sales efforts – put in place appropriate sales plans, budgets and strategies aligned to overall corporate goals and objectives.
  • Drive delivery of own and trading brands targets and review and set targets on an annual, quarterly, monthly and weekly basis.
  • Identify market gaps and put in place sound plans to proactively address these gaps.
  • Collect and analyse sales trends on a regular basis and provide reports with appropriate recommendations on revenues, market share, pricing, product mix, product availability etc.
  • Monitor competitor activity and put in place effective plans to increase customer base, visibility and market share.
  • Identify new sales opportunities and markets and proactively work with relevant teams to pursue and secure any upcoming opportunities.
  • Identify, select, train and evaluate distributors at a National and regional level to ensure the company’s products are readily available in the market.
  • Review and develop national and regional sales channels and go to market strategies that are responsive to market demands and emerging developments.
  • Provide technical and administrative support to the regional sales teams as may be required.
  • Oversee the allocation of credit limits and collection of outstanding amounts.
  • Make regular trade visits and sales calls and ensure relationships with key accounts/ customers are built, sustained and maintained.
  • Provide effective leadership to the sales team including recruiting, organising and building a vibrant and high caliber team,
  • Continuously review the performance of the sales team and address performance gaps through coaching, training and mentoring.
  • Prepare and submit reports as may be required.
Qualification and Experience
  • University degree in business related field
  • Seven (7) years proven experience with at least three (3) years managerial experience either as a National Sales Manager or an Area Sales Manager
  • Must have worked in a fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) environment.
  • Good technical knowledge and understanding of sales.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office and other applications
  • Team player, results oriented and self-motivated
