Position Title: Programme Assistant – AVRR and Counter Trafficking

Type of Appointment: Special Short Term, 9 months with possibility of extension.

Context: Under the overall coordination of the Head of IOM Kenya Country Office and the direct supervision of the Programme Manager of Immigration and Border Management in Nairobi, the successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in the coordination, implementation, monitoring of and reporting on activities under IOM Kenya’s Immigration and Border Management, Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) and Counter Trafficking projects.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the technical and administrative implementation of Immigration and Border Management, Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) and Counter Trafficking projects.
  • Serve as the focal point for AVRR and Counter Trafficking in Kenya, under guidance of RTS and Programme Manager.
  • Maintain the project-related correspondence and progress, technical reports, visibility and communication material and other relevant background documents.
  • Draft reports and formal correspondence and assist in dissemination to relevant counterparts.
  • Monitor status of project, compile, summarize and present information/data on activities and submit reports on a regular basis.
  • Assist the Programme Manager in providing technical support to increase the capacity of relevant implementing partners engaged in the implementation of outreach, advocacy and awareness component.
  • Maintain updates and compiles project documentation, including payment request and similar routine project documentation for the projects.
  • Undertake duty travel related for project implementation.
  • Represent IOM at meetings and conferences relevant to the project in the region, as assigned by RTS and the Programme Manager.
  • Liaise with partner agencies and ministries, relevant to the project as directed.
  • Organize and arrange conferences and/or training sessions related to the projects.
  • Assist in drafting new projects, in particular in relation to Counter Trafficking.
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Education
  • Completed Bachelor’s degree from an accredited academic institution, preferably in Political or Social Science, International Relations and/or Law with three years’ experience or
  • Completed High School/Certificate with five years’ experience
Experience
  • Professional experience in project assistance or project implementation in international donor funded projects;
  • Experience in contributing to drafting project documents and reports;
  • Familiarity with issues of migration, border management and counter trafficking;
  • Work experience in IOM, a UN agency, non-governmental organization, or international organization is required;
  • Extensive experience in liaison and cooperation with governmental authorities and UN partners is required;
  • Excellent writing and communication skills in English;
  • Good level of computer literacy, including database applications.
Languages: Excellent command of spoken and written English and Kiswahili.
