Vacancies: Field Interviewers for STEPUP Project
The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) invites applications for qualified female field interviewers to work in the STEPUP Project: Developing and validating measures of unintended pregnancy and reasons for contraceptive non-use among married women in Nairobi’s informal settlements.
This study aims to develop and validate new measures of unintended pregnancy and reasons for non-use of contraceptives in developing countries.
Such tools would provide an improved understanding of the determinants and dynamics of pregnancy intentions, contraceptive decision-making and use, and the impact of fertility intentions on pregnancy outcomes, especially in settings where fertility intentions may be high or ambiguous and where contraceptive use is low and unmet need high.
The study will be carried out in Korogocho and Viwandani, Nairobi, where the Center has been running the Nairobi Urban and Health Demographic Surveillance System (NUHDSS) since 2002.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Identifying study participants as defined in the study
  • Consenting study participants
  • Conducting face-to-face interviews with females sampled for the study
  • Reviewing and correcting any inconsistent data detected from the database
  • Ensuring that all study participants in the sample assigned to her are properly accounted for by close of data collection
  • Submitting daily work progress report to the immediate supervisor
  • Ensuring safety of survey tools and equipment
Minimum qualifications:
  • Have at least KCSE with a minimum of C+.
  • Be proficient in basic computer applications.
  • Be fluent in English and Kiswahili.
  • Be prepared to work full time on the project for the duration of the study.
  • Possess strong interpersonal, communication (written and oral) and facilitation skills.
  • Have proven experience in research work quantitative data collection.
  • Previous engagement with APHRC will be an added advantage.
  • Be a resident of or have a good knowledge of Korogocho or Viwandani.
