International Medical Corps is recruiting a Capacity Building Advisor, to be based in Nairobi, for an anticipated Department of State, Office of the U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator and Global Health Diplomacy (S/GAC) project.
Job Summary: The Capacity Building Advisor will be responsible for building the technical, financial, managerial and organizational capacities of subawardees identified through this project. This is an anticipate position.
Essential Responsibilities
- Conduct in-depth organizational assessments of subawardees; review results in collaboration with subawardees and develop a detailed technical assistance plan to be implemented over the life of the project;
- Manage and oversee design and delivery of all capacity building-related activities, approaches and tools targeted at strengthening the capacity of subawardees;
- Participate in monitoring, evaluating, and periodic reporting related to capacity building;
- Provide on-site technical assistance (coaching, mentoring and other approaches) to subawardees in order to assist with strengthening organizational systems, processes and governance;
- Identify opportunities for South 2 South exchanges between subawardees and facilitate the exchanges;
- Collaborate and maintain relationships with stakeholders in all aspects of project planning, monitoring, and implementation for all capacity building activities;
- Lead in the design and maintenance of a resource data-base of successful capacity development strategies, approaches and tools;
- Provide periodical reports on organizational performance improvement of each subawardee including lessons learned, impact on targets and performance including productivity and quality, governance and oversight;
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills & Requirements:
- An advanced degree in Public Health, International Development, or a related field
- At least 8 years of experience working in USG funded health projects, specifically focused on health systems strengthening, HIV/AIDS, and working with Key Populations
- Demonstrated experience providing capacity building for community-based organizations, specifically organizations working in the health sector
- Prior work experience in Kenya and the East Africa region highly desirable.
- Prior work with Key Populations preferred.
- Strong verbal and written English communication skills required. Kiswahili preferred.
