Accountabilities
- Formulate and implement the company’s legal strategy.
- Where required, prepare and manage the legal budget.
- Draft and ensure that a legal policy is implemented and adhered to.
- Advise relevant parties such as the Regional Director, the Region’s executive team and other executives with regards to corporate governance developments in the Region.
- Advise on, and ensure adherence to, legislation applicable to the MultiChoice Africa Group in the Region.
- Formulate and implement the Region’s Intellectual Property Strategy
- Advise on IP related queries.
- Prepare presentations on various legal topics.
- Assist with corporate and commercial transactions.
- Negotiate, draft and review various agreements (i.e. shareholders agreements, loan agreements, entertainment law agreements, commercial agreements, IT agreements and IP agreements).
- Actively manage litigation arising in the Region.
- Manage and liaise with external parties (including outside attorneys) on behalf of the Region.
- Conduct training on new pieces of legislation applicable to the Region.
- Provide legal guidance on the structure of proposed services.
- Draft, review and amend terms and conditions for various services required by the Region.
- Assist with resolution of customer queries referred to the legal department.
- Implement and manage the Legal Compliance Programme for the Region (including preparation of Risk Registers for the board)
