Our client, an investment company in the local market, aims at creating wealth by offering investment opportunities to its customers and shareholders.
To achieve this, the organisation seeks to pursue prudent and profitable investments in order to increase shareholder value.

The organisation is undergoing significant growth which requires the leadership and guidance of a visionary individual. In light of this, the organisation wishes to recruit a General Manager.

Job Purpose:  Reporting to the Board of Directors, the General Manager will serve as the Chief Executive.
In partnership with the Board, they will be responsible for the success of the organisation and will be required to ensure the accomplishment of the organisation’s mission, vision, values and short term objectives as well as remain accountable to the organisation’s shareholders.
The General Manager will have delegated responsibility of the management and day-to-day operations of the organisation.
They jobholder will also have authority to carry out these responsibilities, in accordance with the direction and policies established by the Board.
The General Manager is also required to provide direction and support the Board as it carries out its governance functions.

Main responsibilities

This is a demanding position based on full responsibility for the organisation’s operations.

The job older will be required to:

Mission, policy and planning

  • Monitor and evaluate the organisation’s relevancy to the community, its effectiveness and its results.
  • Keep the Board fully informed on the financial condition of the organisation  and on all the important factors affecting  the achievement of its objectives:
  1. Identify problems and opportunities and address them; bring those which are appropriate to the Board and/or its committees; and, facilitate discussions and deliberations
  2. Inform the Board and its committees about trends, issues, problems and activities in order to facilitate policy-making.
  • Make recommendations on policy matters to the Board.
  • Implement all the board resolutions.
Governance
  • Establish strong and appropriate relationships with Board, Board committees, staff, stakeholders and shareholders.
  • Assist the Board in reviewing its role and accountabilities and that of its committees and individual members; and help evaluate board performance regularly.
  • Work with the Board Chair to enable the Board to fulfil its governance functions and facilitate the optimum performance by the Board, its committees and individual Board members.
  • With the Board Chair, focus Board attention on long-term strategic issues.
  • Manage the Board’s due diligence process to assure timely attention to core issues.
Management and administration
  • Provide general oversight of all the organisation ’s activities
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the organisation  and ensure the smooth functioning of an efficient and profitable organisation
  • Handle detailed concepts and problems, balance multiple tasks simultaneously and make quick decisions regarding administrative issues.
  • Ensure organisational stability through the development and implementation of internal controls systems and procedures and regular evaluation.
  • Plans and meets deadlines.
  • Conveys a professional and positive image and attitude regarding KICL
  • Demonstrates commitment to continued professional growth and development.
  • Implement processes for selecting, developing, motivating and evaluating staff
  • Enable a work environment that retains and supports quality staff.
  • Recommend staffing and the relevant financing to the Board of Directors.
  • Recruit personnel, negotiate professional contracts in accordance with Board resolutions and ensure that appropriate salary structures are developed and maintained.
  • Specify job descriptions and accountabilities for all personnel and evaluate performance regularly.
Legal compliance
  • Ensure all legal and regulatory documents are filed in accordance with the deadlines set in the Companies Act.
  • Monitor compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
Financing
  • Ensure that investment opportunities are implemented in a cost-effective manner while maintaining an acceptable level of quality.
  • Oversee the fiscal activities of the organisation including budgeting, reporting and auditing.
  • Perform risk mitigation.
  • Work with the Board to ensure financing to support short- and long-term goals:
  1. Plan and implements investment programs.
  2. Help guide and enable the Board, its investment committee and individual Board members to participate actively in the investment process.
  3. Help the Board and its investment committee design, implement and monitor a viable financing plan for the organisation, policies and procedures.
  4. Actively participate in identifying, cultivating and soliciting investment prospects.
  5. Ensure the availability of materials to support solicitation of funds.
Marketing and sales
  • Prepare overall marketing strategy and oversee implementation of all marketing initiatives within the organisation.
  • Facilitate growth, sales, and marketing strategies
  • Develop programs with quantifiable objectives to measure results.
  • Implement and manage marketing budget.
  • Leverage data and analytics to drive insights.
  • Modify or redirect business intelligence strategy.
  • Develop segmentation, competitive analysis/market intelligence, prospecting, lead generation, product and market development, pricing, promotions, communications and budgets, sales force effectiveness, strategic planning, services units and revenue retention and growth.
  • Develop and measure key metrics around the business
Public relations
  • Serve as chief spokesperson for the organiation, ensuring proper representation of the organisation to the community.
  1. Facilitate the marketing of the organiation using effective marketing and communications activities.
  2. Act as an advocate, within the public and private sectors, for issues relevant to the organisation, its services and constituencies.
  • Initiate, develop and maintain cordial relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Seek stakeholder feedback in order to improve services and generate stakeholder involvement.
  • Ensure community awareness of the organisation’s response to community needs.
Academic and professional qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in business with a minimum of three years’ experience in a senior management position.
  • CPA(K)

  • Motivating: The chief executive manages continuity, change and transition, knows how to influence and enable others. S/he addresses the impact of attitude and action on the organiation and its participants.
Additional Requirements

The successful candidate must demonstrate the following skills:

  • Knowledge of human resource management, finance and administration;
  • Oral and written communication skills coupled with excellent computer skills;
  • Hand’s own experience in planning and evaluation and governance.
  • Knowledge  and experience of property development and management is crucial
  • High level of interpersonal skills is required to make formal, persuasive presentations to groups and to deal effectively with people from all segments of the community.
  • Team player with proven leadership skills in efficiently managing human, financial and other resources with an outstanding track record of achieving set targets.
  • Excellent understanding of policies and laws relating to real estate ,companies and the financial sector
  • Ability to deal effectively with demanding situations and designs and implements interventions.
  • The ideal candidate must share in the organisation’s values, mission and vision, with a high degree of honestly; consistently displays integrity, modelling behaviour, developing people and building teams.
The job holder will be required to maintain a flexible work schedule to meet the demands of executive management.
