Recruitment Vacancy : Latest careers at Spire in Nairobi June 2016

Position: Curriculum Writer
Location: Nairobi, Kenya
Duration: Full-Time
Spire is a small team with a big vision: reinventing professional education from scratch.
Imagine what it would look like if we drew on the latest in learning science, data and technology.
We think that learning would sync with adult learning needs as they arise in the workplace, and would blend practice-based learning, interactive and relevant training experiences, world-class online content, and high-quality offline coaching.
Spire launched in Kenya in early 2014 and began working collaboratively with employers to design internal learning programmes in January 2015. Our purpose is to help high-impact organizations build transformative learning programmes that enhance how individuals and teams think, act and achieve results.
This is a unique opportunity to help shape the direction of a rapidly growing company and lay the foundations for success over the next 10 years.
As such, we’re only interested in highly motivated, very driven self-starters, full of great ideas and willing to work very hard – if you’re looking for lots of micromanagement, this isn’t the job for you.
We are looking for a fresh, creative educator and creator (that’s you) to build powerful and coherent training programs that transform both our trainees’ skill sets and attitudes towards professional growth.
We seek to disrupt traditional employer-mandated training and to create a fun, engaging, highly relevant adult learning experience that is personalized to our clients, yet replicable and uniquely Spire.
As our Learning Designer, you will develop Spire programmes’ architecture, curriculum, content, and delivery.
You will excel at devising high-impact lessons that result in changed behaviors and actions, even with a low-dosage learning model structured around everyday work demands. You will develop assessment tools to ensure we are making a significant positive impact.
Your work will support our clients’ employees from those who are starting their first job to experienced managers. You will collaborate with our project teams, product team, coaching team, and digital production team to design the best educational products that Spire can deliver.
In this role, you are accountable for shaping our core products and for driving learning impact. The lessons you design will be delivered to thousands of people and transform the way that individuals and companies operate.
This is a unique opportunity to help shape the direction of a rapidly growing company and lay the foundations for success over the next 10 years.

Role Responsibilities

  • Programme design: you will refine and build our core learning products, from architecture to curriculum to materials.
  • Quality: you will drive excellence for both our offline and online learning products, by combining global best practices and innovative experiments with your own highly rigorous and creative thinking.
  • Assessment: you will refine and improve tools to measure learning impact and outcomes for our clients to ensure that our training educates and changes behaviors.
  • Capacity building: you will build internal Spire understanding of andragogy – how adults best learn, and how to shape not only their skills but also mindsets, attitudes, and behaviors.
  • Support: you will help Project Delivery teams understand client learning needs and you will support Business Development shape the learning component of project proposals
  • Passion: You must be passionate about education.
Competencies Required
You’ll be:
  • Entrepreneurial: When faced with a something you’ve never done before, you dive in, figure out how to solve the problem, and give it a go. You believe that progress is better than perfection.
  • Results-driven: You move fast and take full ownership for your work and will do whatever it takes to get results, even if it means you doing basic work.
  • Detail oriented: You actually care whether your emails are spelled properly and capitalised correctly. You notice when other people don’t do this. It will annoy you to see small details not taken care of.
  • Flexible: You’re flexible enough to deal with the changes of plan & unexpected tasks that crop up in a fast-growing company like Spire.
About Spire
  • We move fast and work hard: we are looking for people who want to do what it takes to help change the world, not those who want a simple 9-to-5 job
  • We are a lifestyle, not a job: you will be stretched every day and learn more here in a week than you would anywhere else in a year
  • We believe that learning should be FUN: no matter the setting, we infuse our energy, enthusiasm, and interactive activities into our learning environment
  • We have built a culture on open communication: all staff must be ready to receive and give feedback to other staff members
