Lead Statistician – Data Synthesis and Triangulation
Based in Nairobi
The University of California San Francisco (UCSF) is engaged in a five-year Cooperative Agreement with CDC-Kenya to provide technical assistance to the Ministry of Health and its partners for HIV and STI program Monitoring and Evaluation as well as in conducting surveillance and survey activities. 
We are recruiting through our affiliated international NGO Global Programs for Research & Training a Lead Statistician – Data Synthesis and Triangulation. 
 
This position requires a one year commitment, with the potential for extension subject to funding availability.
Main Duties and Responsibilities: 
Under the supervision of the Senior Epidemiologist, the incumbent will work with the UCSF team, the Global Programs in-country team and the National AIDS and STI Control Programme (NASCOP) Strategic Information team. 
The incumbent will 
  • participate in planning, designing and implementation of surveillance and M&E projects; 
  • conduct analysis of data for assigned projects; provide interpretation of statistical analysis and results; 
  • provide advice on implications of results from statistical analysis for program planning and decision making; 
  • provide support the development of training materials for biostatistics, data analysis and utilization of statistical software for analysis; 
  • assist in manuscript preparation; and participate in provision of training to MOH and its partners in biostatistics, data analysis, utilization of software and interpretation of analysis.
Minimum Requirements:  
  • A Master’s degree in statistics/biostatistics or related field with two years working experience is required.
  • Five years of progressive experience in public health or related field and a bachelor’s degree in statistics/biostatistics or related field may be substituted for a Master’s degree. 
  • One year of experience working in public health, epidemiology, M&E, or related field is required. 
  • Have experience in conducting data triangulation and meta-analysis using multiple sources of data, with different methodologies and limitations.
  • Proficiency in SAS and STATA. Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
  • Fluency in English is required.
Preferred Skills: 
  • In-depth, comprehensive, and evolving knowledge of statistical and mathematical analysis techniques integrated with computer applications. 
  • Data management training and skills. 
  • Ability to prioritize, work under deadlines, work with minimal supervision and multitask. 
  • Experience analysing data collected using respondent driven sampling (RDS) and time location sampling. 
  • Knowledge of concepts of public health, epidemiology and surveillance. 
  • Ability to effectively communicate statistical results to the general public in both written and oral form is desired.
