ESHS Officer – Turkana, Kenya

Our client, a Professional Services Business that delivers projects, provides expertise in engineering, procurement and construction, is looking for an ESHS Officer for its project in Turkana. 

The successful candidate’s main responsibility will be to minimize the negative impact of the project works on the local environment, the local communities and on the health and safety of project workers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be conversant with the Project’s ESHS system including the various management plans and other supporting documentation.
  • Oversee multiple contractors and diverse activities during the construction phase of the project and the strengthening works for  roads.
  • Assist the company in ESH&S dealings with external parties – including contractors / consultants, lenders and business partners, Government Ministries, Regulatory Bodies and other Agencies, International NGOs and other key stakeholders.
  • Ensure full compliance with applicable Kenyan legislation and specific permitting requirements.
  • Compilation of auditing reports and findings- ensuring close out of items for which the company is responsible for, and monitoring contractors for close out of non-conformances they are responsible for.
  • Perform Investigation of Accidents and Incidents according to standards and procedures.
  • Perform project ESHS Risk Assessments as per the companies’ requirements.
  • Assist with compilation of monthly reports as agreed to between the client and the company – presentation to project team if required.
  • Participate in Quality Audits and alignment of safety according to identified risks.
Qualifications / Skills
  • MUST have 3-5 years in experience as a Health and Safety Officer.
  • Applicable occupational HSE training and certification.
  • Practical OHSAS 18001 and legal compliance Auditing.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Good practical knowledge of the construction regulations.
  • Maturity and an attitude that will promote the companies’ culture and customer relations.
  • Data analysis and report writing.
  • Facilitation skills for risk assessments and chairing of site Safety Representative meetings.
  • Honesty, integrity and the ability to honor confidentialities.
Monthly Gross Salary: Ksh.200, 000/= Plus other benefits (Approx. 2,000 USD) depending on experience
