Mission for Essential Drugs and Supplies (MEDS) is a registered trust of the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) and the Christian Health Association of Kenya (CHAK) with a mandate to provide reliable, quality and affordable essential drugs, medical supplies, capacity building, laboratory and other pharmaceutical services. 
MEDS is working with other consortium members to implement a five-year USAID-funded Afya Jijini Project in Nairobi County. 
Afya Jijini has an ultimate aim to improve access and uptake of quality health services in Nairobi County. 

 

The project seeks specifically to increase access and use of quality HIV services, improve access and uptake of maternal, neonatal, and child health (MNCH), reproductive health (RH), Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) and nutrition services, and strengthen County and Sub-County health systems.

MEDS invites applications from qualified candidates for the following positions:
 
1. Health Supply Chain Pharmacist
Reporting to the Health Supply Chain Advisor and working closely with relevant project staff, the Health Supply Chain Pharmacist will be responsible for managing health products and technologies and capacity building of health personnel for effective and sustainable health care services.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Co-ordinate supply chain management of ARVs and other health products for opportunistic infections.
  • Conduct training of staff of Afya Jijini Implementing Health Facilities on forecasting commodity needs, procurement, tracking inventory and monitoring health products and technologies (HPT)
  • Review logistical management systems for management of ARVs, OI drugs for conformity with existing Kenya Quality Model for Health (KQMH) infrastructure and guidelines.
  • Participate in Project Assessment and technical support visits to Implementing Health Facilities for Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) site activation and capacity enhancement respectively.
  • Develop and implement the project’s Supply Chain Quality Improvement System.
  • Work with Afya Jijini Implementing Health Facilities to set up Medicines and Therapeutics Committees where none exist and help to strengthen the existing ones.
  • Monitor and report on Afya Jijini Implementing Health Facilities’ progress in implementation of pharmacy related improvements and recommendations identified during assessments and supervisory visits.
Requirements:
Level of Education: 
  • Bachelor in Pharmacy.
Professional / Additional Qualifications: 
  • Business-related or Public Health or Supply Chain Management.
  • Experience in Project Management will be an added advantage.
Experience: 
  • Over 3 years’ hands on experience in a similar position with a donor-funded project
2. Medical Laboratory Specialist
Reporting to MEDS project Principal Investigator, and working closely with the Chief of Party, the Medical Laboratory Specialist will be responsible for offering high-level laboratory health products and technologies support, systems strengthening, management and capacity building support for effective and sustainable health care services.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and review health service delivery policy guidelines, standard operating procedures (SOPs) and manuals for medical laboratories.
  • Conduct training and mentorship sessions for laboratory healthcare workers for delivery of quality health services.
  • Provide technical oversight in Laboratory systems strengthening as well as implementing project activities for improved medical laboratory services, especially supplies and equipment.
  • Coordinate laboratory products and technologies in Afya Jijini Implementing Health Facilities for adequate stocking levels.
  • Ensure availability of laboratory supplies in all the Implementing Health Facilities and strengthen reporting at County and Sub-county levels.
  • Coordinate Laboratory Quality Assurance activities within the project monitoring and evaluation framework.
  • Build relationships with key laboratories within Implementing Health Facilities
  • Participate in the project technical advisory teams for monitoring and evaluation of activities, including supportive supervision.
Job Requirements:
Level of Education: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences or its equivalent
Professional / Additional Qualifications: 
  • Business or Public Health related qualification. 
  • Experience in Project Management will have an added advantage.
Experience: 
  • Over 3 years’ hands on experience in a similar position with a donor-funded project
Job Skills / Behavioral Attributes:
 Applicants must have good interpersonal relations with excellent communication, relevant training and experience, analytical, report writing and computer skills.
